View Full Version : I need an idea for a 1200 calorie night time meal.

I got the first part of the day covered. It's night time where I screw up. I need 1200 calories of somthing good and filling. Does anyone know?

This would be broken up into 600 calorie increments. I'm a big guy. I manage the first half of the day, but usually at night is where I fall off due to hunger and eat cooked food.

I'm looking for a raw replacement, or possibly somthing vegetarian or healthy. If you have any suggestions, let me know. Thanks in advance.

hmm what do you eat in the begging of the day? Are you very active? What kinds of foods do you crave (meaning in terms of cooked foods and/or raw foods)? Having answers to these questions will help me to provide better suggestions.

But for now,

600 calories:
-take 1 and 1/8 cup dry chickpeas, soak them overnight and sprout them for a couple of days. place in blender or food processor with a few greens (and any herbs and spices you desire) and blend until smooth or desired texture. Wrap in a lettuce leaf or eat with a spoon.

-1/2 of a mature coconut (if this is difficult to eat place in blender with coconut water. add a little raw sweetener if desired but i don't think its necessary)

-Green smoothie of 5 bananas, berries (or other fruit of choice, and dandelion greens, spinach, chard, or other greens

-600 calories worth of sprouted grain ground up and dehydrated into a bread type deal.

I'll probably be able to come up with better ideas once you answer my questions :)
good luck :)

I have to agree with Lunar*Fey. These are really good ideas, I would also want to know if you are taking a good Barley Max type supplement? It is very nutritionally rich and keeps me from getting as hungry as I use to.

But when I do get hungry and usually it is in the evening, I eat a lot of the chickpeas made into a pate. I also add some Nama Shoyu, (Nama Shoyu is cooked so it keeps me from being 100% raw), and this really makes a big difference in my satisfaction. Spread the pate on raw crackers and you have a feast!!

I don't think the calorie count really matters. I think as long as you eat enough food to satisfy you, you'll get enough calories without worrying about having to count them. Avocados, nuts and seeds are filling foods. Green smoothies are also filling. You could make a big salad with avocados, chopped nuts or seeds in it. You could also make a nut pate like Alissa's Mock Salmon pate and use it in a wrap or as a veggie dip. If you don't have Alissa's book, her Mock Salmon Pate is at www.fromsadtoraw.com along with some other recipes you might find filling.

A shake I like to make is 1/2-3/4 cup sunflower seed milk mixed with a couple frozen bananas, a date and a couple tablespoons of carob powder. I have no idea how many calories is in it, but it sure tastes good and is filling. Sometimes when I don't have the milk made up, I just throw about 1/4 cup seeds in with 1/2-3/4 cup water and bananas and date in blend it all up.

Any of the varied nut pates would probably be very filling ans satisfying.

Flax seed crackers would add to it too.

Just don't forget to include some greens!:)

Greetings Joe,

Alissa's philosophy is to eat raw live foods - it's not about counting calories so most people here don't do that.

Find some recipes you enjoy and then... enjoy them :)

If you eat some fruit or a smoothie before your supper, you will do MUCH better on the over-eating front.

Simple...but not too simple to work!

but her suggestion still works. he can add a green smoothie to his meal and then eat whatever he wants... that'll make his meal SUPER nutritious! (and higher in calories...)

Thanks for the replies.

What is Chickpeas, and this "soaking and blending" you're talking about, is it any good?

What is a Nut Pate? I have no idea nor ever heard ot it. How would I make it? Is it a sauce? Is it a dish?

I wish one of you ladies prepare some of these dishes for me, I Tried doing oen of those "Raw" dishes one time.. worst thing I ever ate.. guess I was doing it wrong!

My diet was 3 Banana + strawberry smoothies a day. Totallying 12 Bananas and 12 strawberries. First half of the day. I feel great. Then I would eat a Can of chili and basically whatever else the last 2 meals of the day.

Cans of Chili as a substitute for a vegetarian dish..BLAH!...that stuff is so processed, and filled with garbage it's like .. YUCK.. super toxic... That stuff is BAD.. stay away from canned chili. Has like 1,000+ Mg of sodium..

I only ate it because it was a quick, close-to-vegetarian meal, and it was 600 calories. But I need somthing pure.. Man that stuff is canned garbage.. can't eat it anymore.

there's a recipe section on here w lots of great dishes if you aren't familiar w nut pates and other dishes. i think you would enjoy and benefit from a raw food prep book too, you can get lots of them from the library and they usually have some info about sprouting seeds and legumes (a chickpea is a bean, though many sources say that they are actually one of the beans that is toxic when raw/sprouted).

Joe, it's time for you to spend some time reading this forum and learning about raw foods. Cause oh man... does your diet need it LOL

A pate is something you make and then spread on crackers (raw dehydrated crackers) or you can fill a lettuce leaf with it and wrap it up and eat it. You can also fill up a celery stick and munch away.

Chickpeas... well they are chickpeas.

And... we don't discuss cooked foods here... this is a support program for people who are raw (or attempting to go raw) but we aren't here to convince anyone that our way is best (cause it may be best for us but not for someone else).

I highly recommend you pick up a copy of Alissa's book (http://www.alissacohen.com/shop/product.php?productid=37&cat=3&page=1) and go from there!

Hi Joe

it sounds from your smoothie diet that you are really missing out on a lot of important healthy fats, protein and nutrients.

you NEED veggies!!!!!!
you NEED fats!!!!!!!
you NEED protein!!!!

otherwise your body will always feel hungry and seek nourishment

for high calorie food on nights before big climbs etc. I put 1-2 sweet potatoes in the blender with 1-3 bananas, handful of nuts, 1-3 dates, cinnamon, cayenne or honey or whatever i want to add.

it makes a pudding type of custardy thing that is very filling

good luck!!

Do you put any liquid in that?

Do you have a dehydrator?? It's totally not necessary but it might help you at this point.

Chickpeas are a type of legume. They are also referred to as garbanzo beans. google them :)
and soaking and sprouting is done to seeds (legumes, nuts, grains-all seeds) in order to germinate them, thus awakening the enzymes and nutrients and rendering them more digestible and such. visit www.sproutpeople.com , that should help you out.

Many people have already given great suggestions. I definitely agree with the avocado and green consumption. Avocados are just plain amazingggg, and greens provide important micronutrients (vitamins, minerals)

Here are a couple more ideas:
-make a raw "granola" recipe with sprouted grains, nuts and seeds, dried fruit, etc and eat it with nut milk. You can google a recipe or just whip up your own, you can make any combo that appeals to you really.

-raw sprouted grain bread or flax crackers with nut butter and sliced fruit

-leafy green wrap with some sort of sprouted lentil pate

-I think there are chili type recipes floating around...they use vegetables along with corn and sprouted lentils and the like. google that too lol, or search it on the forum.

I'll let you know if anything else comes to mind.
good luck and let us know if you try anything new :)

Do you have a food processor? You can easily find one at at a resale or thrift store for less than $20, I'm sure. Once you have one you can make raw chili=)

The raw chili recipe is so good. Here's a link to one, but you can add/take away ingredients for your tastes.

Thanks goodness for zucchini hummus!!!

I hoped so, LOL. I was thinking you must have an AWESOME blender if you didn't need water in it. That thing sounds yummy. As soon as my Vita-Mix gets here, I'm gonna try it.

Isn't it wonderful to find new recipes that you like?=) But since I'm pretty sure it's not a 1200 calorie meal (depending on how much you eat, and how many avocadoes you add=) I'll sugget something heavy for hijacking reasons...

Many of the delicious pie recipes can be high calorie--and high nutrition, too. Have you tried Alissa's pecan pie? It is very easy--and so much like pecan pie that my family even liked it=)
