Hi all

I'm probably NOT the archetypal raw-foodie....and I never will be. Fact is I love my beer too much to be 100% raw. And though vegan I've always advocated personal choice regarding diet. And it's always been more about animal welfare than personal health - and coming from the punk/hunt-sab scenes of 10 years or so back, it's definately not been about personal holistics.

The reason I've ended up here however, is that I've struggled with weight and played with crash diets and the like with varying success but always ending up worse. So this year I went on that awwful (but I actually like the taste of it) cabbage soup diet - but realised "been here, done that, failed". And so odd is my logic pattern that a boiled-beyond-belief diet led me finally to investigating raw food recipes. And I've found that I have really enjoyed them. Andf I realised without making a conscious decision that this is more than a crash diet, it's the new outlook I've been looking for

Not wanting to dive totally headlong in, I tried a few recipes, then 2 weeks later, realised that without even trying, I was 80% raw. I kept telling myself that "I'm not going to eat raw every meal" but for the most part, I've actually found myself wanting a raw meal over a cooked one. Can never give up beer nor cooked beetroot though....but beer and raw lasagne has to be better than beer and an oily veg. curry, right?

The stomach acid problems that I've had, have totally disappeared. Then 1 day I decided to "treat myself" and have a fry's vegeburger, grilled not fried, with salad, in wholemeal bread. AARGH.....HEEEEEARTBUUUURN!!!!!!!

That does it for me....though I love bread - it was definately the bread, of that I am sure - its gone. that is an easy decision yet such a big step made easy.

I always though the raw - or predominantly raw- diet was "for nutters"...but then I'm sure people think cooked vegan food is similarly "for nutters". But if that's the case, then I'm a converted nutter...

And I think I've made a good choice for long term health rather than a quick fix too.....and I can't believe how enjoyable it is. Not to mention how easy washing-up is without congealed baked-on deposits.

Welcome, Tiger. I'm new to the board and to raw foods, too. In fact, today is my 4th day. I share your experience, though, of naturally losing the desire for my old favorites.
