Hi everyone, this is my first post and thank you for this wonderful over 50 site. I have been raw two months and my eyesight, digestion, muscle aches, chronic congestion has all improved, yeah :)
My detox cycles have been intense, but not unbearable (I can still run my business, but i need to work 10-11 hour days due to current economy :(
About two days a month prior to raw i would have menopause symptoms. This has not changed, and since raw, they feel to have gotten worse. Today it's so bad i haven't been able to start work yet.
Is this normal that symptoms may get worse before getting better? I love being raw, do i just need to be patient?
thank you all, I feel like i have found long lost friends!

Welcome.
I was menopausal before going raw and my symptoms got a whole lot better after 3 weeks.
Everybody is different. I did not have a toxic diet before going raw and I think that helped.
Hang in there. It will get better and it will be worth it in the end.

You certainly can! In fact, this is the BEST possible thing you could do, as you will be avoiding the foods and substances that give menopausal and beyond women trouble, like refined starchy carbs, sugar, alcohol, and the like. As far as your symptoms, lots of this depends on how bad your diet was previously and for how long, plus your own biochemistry. Give it a serious go! Some of the symptoms also might be your body doing its own housecleaning, as you haven't been raw that long at all. At our ages, it takes longer to detox because we have a build-up of previous stuff to deal with. But take heart, it WILL happen - just keep on RAWKING!

thank you, it certainly helps to have support.
i realize i can't really access how i am doing with only two months under my belt. On days like this i think i just need to take it easy and have compassion for my body.
i was probably more toxic then i was willing to admit to myself before going raw, so this program is also a needed reality check.

Raw is a wonderful gift you give yourself. Vibrancy and energy--life. I went into menopause at 42 which was chemically induced by chemo for breast cancer. Only time I had hot flashes was within 10 min. of ingesting anythng with processed sugar. Raw fruit gives me no issues. Have not had any other symptoms. Be active, eat raw and enjoy. The only thing I did notice is doing lots of nut-heavy recipes left me feeling sluggish all the time. Green smoothies, lots of fruit and fresh salads and soups seem to suit me much better. Hope this helps a little.

Staying raw through perimenopause was what saved me from suffering through the usual symptoms. I'm finally in menopause (no periods for at least 12 months, some say 24 months) and still find it hard to believe it was so easy to get here. I feel fortunate to have started raw just in time to avoid the symptoms other women I know have gone through; hot flashes, brain freezes, anger management issues, and hormone supplements. I was starting to get hot flashes a few months before going raw, the flashes stopped shortly after going raw.
This wasn't my first time raw and I wonder if that made a difference. Most of my heavy detoxing was already done a few years before I started raw again in 2008. I would guess if your symptoms have gotten worse after two months raw, it is part of the detox process. Remember, perimenopause is a process that can take 2-6 years. Keep going raw! Get the detox done now and it will be easier for you later. :)
