I Love summer and one of my favorite things about summer among others is farmer's market. We have one downtown every saturday morning and I went there for the first time this year today and got a bouquet of beautiful sun flowers and yummy yummy tomatoes and some other produce. It is really my first real tomato besides store bought what a difference. I just finished it. The farmer's market I usually go to just opened last weekend. I tried a csa once and it just did not work out for me too much produce and some went to waste. It is so nice to buy local. Luckily there are little farms or farmer markets around. Are you guys all lucky enough to have local farmer markets around you?

We have a larger farmers market on Saturdays but I found by checking the site that there is a bunch of smaller ones throughout the week. I hit those on my way home from work. Nice to have fresh food. I also found organic corn on the cob and promptly ate it at the market. LOL. They were peeling them for kids to gnosh.

Gotta Love them.....YES,
Absolutely! So much spirit -- it's not just the food. It's really a joy to go and be a part of what's happening.
Even fresher is going to a "u-pick (http://pickyourown.org)" farm. Those are great too. Went blueberry picking with my hubby yesterday!

I'm lucky enough to have one about a block away from me in the summer on Saturdays. The prices are a little higher than the stores but the quality and freshness can't be beat!! I went yesterday and at the one booth where I always buy my beets and spinach supply for the week had a huge bag of beet leaves sitting on the counter marked $3. It seems people want the beets not the greens, so the girl just throws them in a bag and changes the price as the bag gets bigger.
I discovered peas shoots there a couple weeks ago, I've been adding them to my salads and smoothies.

I live in New York and there is a farmer's market somewhere in the city EVERYDAY!
I usually just go to Union Square every other day and get my greens as fresh as possible. Also, during the summer I get a lot of greens for free. The farmers give me the carrot, beets and other tops that otherwise would go to the compost. Sometimes I get so many that I cannot finish them but I can use them to make raw bread.
I really love the summer, last week I got so many wild greens for almost no money because everyone wants just to get spinach. There is so much variety!
The farmers market of Union Square has everything from mushrooms of every kind to wines and sprouts. I love it!

I've been wanting to do this. I need to get to it!
I LOVE farmer's markets. There's a really big that I go to. It's open year round. I've got the whole family into it now. My sons can't wait to tear into the produce when we get it. :p
I've been meaning to check out some smaller ones. Trying to fit that in.

Yes! I just got back from my local WINTER farmers market! :excited:
It was so awesome! I picked up lots of great produce...onions, garlic, greens, beautiful, beautiful apples, beets, AND local raw honey! It was so awesome, I just had to share. Also, I wanted to let you know that it started not because of the farmers, but because the public got together and asked for it. I spoke to this one really nice person and she told me that it was a lot of work finding an indoor place (they're doing it at the middle school), but that because they knew they had supporters it was well worth the effort.

Farmers markets are so expensive here. The beautiful fruit can be four times as much as conventional!!

Wow Stella, I can't believe you have a winter market!
I'm just waiting and waiting for the spring and summer so I can have my farmers' market back, lol.
Stina that is strange. Occasionally things like organic nuts will be more expensive at mine, but usually the pricing is unbelievably low compared to the store.
