I want to sprout sunflower seeds in a jar but they get spoiled very rapidly and become rotten. I've tried sprouting in the fridge but they grow very slowly. What can I do to ensure that they don't get rotten and still grow? Thanks.

do you want just the seeds, or the greens? If you looking to sprout them for the green leaves, put them on a bed of soil and let them grow.:p
If just to use the sprouted seeds, maybe fridge in the day when hotter, and counter at night when cooler out?

I sprout legumes all the time. I assume the same techniques work for sunflower seeds. The key is to keep the seeds damp but not wet (once the initial soaking is done). Rinse the seeds twice a day and store the sprouting jar upside down at a 45 degree angle so the excess water can drain off. A folding dish drainer works great for this. Or use a special sprouting device. I use an easysprout: http://www.sproutpeople.com/devices/ez/easysprout.html. Works great.

I successfully sprouted 5# of sunflower seeds a couple weeks ago, it was my first time sprouting them..
I soaked them all for about 4 hours, then I rinsed well. I placed them in my 'nut milk' bags which are actually paint strainer bags from Sherwin-Williams.
I live in the desert, but our AC was on. I didn't have any of them go bad. I don't recall exactly - but I think it took 2 days for them to sprout tails?
Then I dehydrated them, placed them in Mason jars and put them in our fridge.
The bags worked very well for me. I do sprout in jars, but I don't use jars for the sunflower seeds. *Ü*

Ohh so that's what I did wrong. I totally forgot how to sprout! :) I forgot about rinsing and I kept them soaked all the time. I did it all wrong.
But BTW how do you raise them for greens? "Greens" means the green leafs? Never done this technique before. I would appreciate another response, thx all for the first one. :)
