I've been doing smoothies twice a day. I've been putting in some combination of the following (always spinich & carrots): one banana, carrots, plenty of spinach, strawberries, blueberries, shelled hemp seed, cacao, maca powder, date or two and almond milk or a splash of fruit juice.
Does this give me plenty of nutrients?
How do I know I am getting everything I need? I'm about 75% raw working towards 100%.
Thanks!

How are you feeling? Look at all the Healthy things you are putting in. I know Healthy Food and I just don't worry about it, I just let RAW work its wonders.
A lot of Average people live on SUGAR every day and they think they are just fine........I am saying nothing beats Fresh RAW Fruit, Vegetable, Nuts and Grain. In a Smoothie SO MANY GOOD THINGS ARE COMPILED IN ONE PACKAGE.

Sometimes it is better to have a simpler mix. It is not what you eat but what you digest that makes you healthy and that is not the most digestible mix.
I would not mix nuts and seeds at the same meal.

I'm new to this and do not understand. Why isn't it a digestible mix and why no nuts & seeds in the same meal?
Thanks!

in her book "Green For Life" Victoria Boutenko suggests not to use any vegetables (greens are not vegies) in the smoothie, only greens and fruit.
Greens have a much higher concentration of nutrients than their roots.

It is bad food combining. Every different food requires different enzymes to digest them. Some of those would negate each other so some things should not be combined or digestion will be inhibited.
Use the search button to look at other threads on food combining.

I've read here and there on food combing, don't buy wholeheartedly into it, but do do a few things.
Never heard about nuts and seeds being separate....both are protein/fat, right?
Hi johnled ~ This is my favorite Green Smoothie video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXr8-jru1KE) on YouTube. You may also like to watch the rest of her videos, they're great.
...And while you're there at YouTube, you might like to search for 'Karen Knowler' - her videos are great too.
I'm drinking my GS right now - yum! I just got back from the farmer's market, so in there is red romaine, curly kale, spinach, pineapple, white peach, banana & blueberries. *Ü*

You are not supposed to mix 2 concentrated proteins. This rule applies to cooked and SAD as well.

Thanks for the vid link and the protein info! I have no clue what I'm doing, just trying to be as raw as I can. I'm going to have to buy a book!
Just had a smoothie with spinach, kale, pineapple, coconut water, two dates, strawberries & banana. My 7 year old grandson helped me make it and he drank some and liked it.

Very cool Johnled!
Get them while they're young!

Yes - coconut! I forgot to add that above to my list of what was in my smoothie. I'm able to get a case of 9 young Thai coconuts through a local Asian market for $11.35! I have a standing order for a case a week.
Here's my favorite way (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THEdI_gSNQ4)to open those coconuts. And then I just learned this week that a metal melon baller works great for scooping out the meat. I've been using one every day since.
Some days I put the coconut meat in the smoothie, some days I don't... I like adding some type of frozen fruit (or two) since I like my GS nice and COLD. Now my husband doesn't like them so cold...
I also add spirulina, chlorella and 2T hemp seeds. *Ü*

Do you order your hemp seed online? I could not afford 2T a day based on what I have to play locally for hemp seed. I've not been able to find any of the young coconut around here so I have to settle for the regular hard as a rock brown ones.

Yes, I have ordered them online here (http://www.iherb.com/Nutiva-Organic-Shelled-Hempseed-13-oz-368-g/13112?at=0). This is a very good company to do business with, we've been ordering from them for a couple of years. We place a monthly order with them for many things.
Now that I've discovered Azure Standard (http://www.azurestandard.com/), I'll probably order from them in the future. I've been ordering through them (with a locak pick up point) for 4 months now and I love it! I see they have Nutiva brand, 3# for $37.85.
I've also ordered from Matt Monarch's company (http://www.therawfoodworld.com/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=hemp+seed&osCsid=a36023f35f8b907b3b44c1c37c494db5), as he ran an "at cost" special on Nutiva hemp seed. I see his prices actually are cheaper than Azure's. Anyway - his is a very good company also. I've only placed 2-3 orders, but they came very promptly and were packaged well.
I store my hemp seeds in the freezer. *Ü*

This sounds ridiculous, but I've read that Chia seeds are great additions to high-nutrient smoothies! (still beats the heck out of the vending machine (http://www.vending.com) choices!)
don't believe me? check this: http://www.naturalnews.com/028013_chia_seeds_smoothies.html
"The net effect of long-term consumption of chia seeds, in laboratory studies, is reduced body fat, lowered insulin levels, and lowered blood sugars."
