Is there a way to know whether the pains one is feeling is from detox vs. say eating something that has gone bad or combining the wrong foods?

Thanks!

If you are eating raw foods chances are you are detoxxing. Pain from eating something bad? Well did you eat something that was bad? Dunno

Poor food combining can cause pain. Yes

If your RAW Food is properly Refridgerated it shold be fine. RAW is no different than cooked food when it comes to knowing if it is Spoiled. It will have an Odor or Slyme.

RAW can cause excess Gas and Gas can cause pain in the belly and other areas. But if you are fairly New to RAW, more likely than not, it is DETOX because the more you are RAW, you will usually know the difference by having time and experience.

Nuts can leave your Belly turning Flips, that is why it is recommended to Soak or Sprout and then Dehydrate. Soon I will be asking you questions, IN JOY your Journey.

I have had the same questions, as I have pretty much had non-stop loose stools since I started raw, and a few times it started shortly after I ate something that could possibly been spoiled due to being soaked or dehydrated for a long time. I just waited nervously to see what developed. I have had food poisoning before, and usually you know within a few hours because you are sicker than a dog. If I just have loose stools and a few tummy grumbles, but nothing else happens, I figure it is detox.

RAW can cause excess Gas and Gas can cause pain in the belly and other areas.

raw doesn't cause excess gas.... it's when you mis-combine OR if you are transitioning from SAD or other un-healthy eating habits and foods unfit for human consumption and then you pile a ton of fresh raw fruits and veggies on top of this accumulated waste in your system then the awakening of the old toxic matter creates gas....therefore it is not the raw food itself, but what it is awakening in you that is the cause of gas...... all of this to say, once you have been on a primarily raw diet for a significant amount of time, the gas should go away....

so then, back to the origional question.....
this is a case where you are your own best expert. use your intuition.... if you just ate something that tasted questionable then that could be your culprit, if you just ate a miscombined meal, it could be that......but you shouldn't be gassy just from eating raw foods in general (unless you are in transition, in which case you may be transitioning too quickly....)

If I just have loose stools and a few tummy grumbles, but nothing else happens, I figure it is detox.

loose stools can also be constipation...sounds wierd i know, but check out this thread on the subject....could be detoxing also, just thought i'd share this thread fyi...

I just realized. The pains started happening when I started putting half the juice of a lemon to a whole lemon in my water which I drink first thing in the morning.

Today I feel worse and have been in and out of the bathroom all day. I also have a dinner party to go to tonight. I have no idea what I'm going to do. I feel so sick to my stomach!

Is there anything I can do to feel better?

Activated charcoal is GREAT for clearing up tummy and intestinal troubles temporarily. You can usually find it in capsules at the health food store. I take as many as six if I have stomach flu, but two or three are good for diarrhea and tummy upset. Hope you feel better.
