View Full Version : Great way to scoop coconut meat
I watched this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TA5Q1byTVYQ)and he used a metal melon baller to scoop out the meat from a young Thai coconut.
I've been using it ever since and it works better than anything I've tried! :D
I wanted to share this new find. Plus, I can't wait to make his recipe - looks beyond delicious! *Ü*

hows that any different to a spoon?
hows that any different to a spoon?
It's the shape of the scoop on the end and the fact that it has a flat thin ridge of metal, unlike the rounded edge to a spoon.
A spoon works fine if the meat is very young and thin, but that's the minority of the time at least for the coconuts I get.
My melon baller also has a nice rubber padded middle that I hold onto - much more comfortable when scraping the nut vs. a spoon handle. I find the melon baller more maneuverable as well.
I watched a video by Elaina Love last week and she uses these scoops (http://www.amazon.com/Progressive-GT-3343-International-Fruit-Scoops/dp/B0000E2GX9/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1247672903&sr=8-1). I was going to buy some locally until I saw Dan's video using the melon baller. I think the metal melon baller might work better than the plastic fruit scoops (that Elaina uses) for the young Thai coconuts that have thicker meat. *Ü*
