Is the Thai papaya used for Som Tum the same as the papaya from mexico or the carribean? I tried to make the raw Som Tom which called for a green papaya, garlic, spicy red pepper and braggs. My papaya was half green and the grren part was bitter:mad:

Don't they always say to buy them when they only have a little bit of green.
They say you can dry the seeds in it and they taste like black pepper.

I went to the Asian market today and bought a Thai papaya. It is very different from the papaya like you find in the tropics. I will let you know how the salad turns out tommorrow.
shread a green Thai papaya
Add Chopped garlic-1 clove
1 choped thai chili pepper
Graggs to taste 1-2 tablespoon
juice from 1 lime

The green Thai papaya salad was very goood. I was real happy!
