I recently did a 4-day juice fast and had some weird stomach issues following it. Now, I have done a few 3-day juice fasts and the Master Cleanse before, and I haven't ever had digestive problems after breaking those fasts.

On the 5th day, the day I was going to start breaking the fast, I made a juice. A few hours later, I had an apple. A few hours after that, a very small salad with balsamic vinegar, then another small salad a few hours later, then another apple a few hours after that. By this time it's evening, and I'm feeling fine, no problems.

But the moment I ate some cooked food (roasted beets) is when the cravings hit. (I guess I should have stayed raw...) Later that night I ended up eating 3 pieces of plain whole grain bread, a hunk of dark organic chocolate, and finally a large bowl of high-fiber cereal with soy milk.

The next morning, I had a juice and almost immediately had to run to the bathroom to take care of some rather urgent business. I waited until I felt better and ate some blueberries, and then waited some more and had a small salad. Then I did my best to eat well for the next few days.

The problem was that my stomach was making the craziest rumbling, groaning and squeaking sounds and motions for about 3 days total. It usually didn't hurt, but was uncomfortable and very noticeable. My bathroom habits for the most part were okay; no major issues. Just the horrible stomach sounds and churning.

Finally, they went away, but honestly it scared me. Did I hurt myself in any way? Mess up the effects of my fast? Reintroduce too many foods too quickly to my body?

Also, FYI, I had bms throughout my juice fast with no help from laxative teas or saltwater cleanses, and on Day 3 of the fast was actually locked in the bathroom for a while with some discomfort and quite a few bms, which I assume was a big detox period. Not so fun for this to happen at the office, by the way!!

Just curious if anyone has any thoughts about all that stomach rumbling and what it means. I was really worried about my tummy for a while.

I don't think you've hurt yourself, but rather learned a lesson and that lesson being to stay Raw!

Oh my stomach has made some doosies of noises sometimes...

It's all good...

Early this year, during a juice fast, on the 21st day my innards started rumbling unbelievably loud. It sounded like the 4th of July in there! All kinds of strange rumbling, gurgling noises louder than anything I ever heard in my life. That night I was laying in bed and my wife was looking over at me like I was some kind of loon from a freak show. I was so bewildered. I'm sure it was somehow related with my fasting, maybe a cleansing or an interaction with something I drank. Anyway, here's something from yahoo answers I thought you might find helpful.

The Growling Stomach

Intestinal gas can also cause the familiar sounds of the "growling stomach," a term that's actually a misnomer, says Munsey Wheby, MD, president of the American College of Physicians.

"It's not usually the stomach making the noise," says Wheby, who is also senior associate dean and a professor of medicine at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. "Instead, it's caused by the intestines as they contract."

Everyone knows that a growling "stomach" can mean that you're hungry. But the noise often stems from the movement of air through the intestines, whether there's food there or not. So if you've been swallowing a lot of air, or if you've been eating things that your small intestine can't digest, you may hear some grumbling, or even a whole symphony of bizarre and embarrassing noises.

But like burping and flatulence, occasional growling from the intestines isn't anything to worry about.

I have been eating some fermented foods recently and have been amazed at the amount of squeaks, groans and whistles...and eventually air release. Neutral smell though, so I can only assume it is from the beneficials happily bloating themselves, then belching loudly! If there was a foul smell, it would indicate some putrification going on.

My husband has an inguinal hernia and it is very loud as food moves past the weaker part of his intestine. Sometimes it seems as though our intestines are singing to each other with all the gurgling that goes back and forth. We laugh it off, but wonder about it at times.

As the bacteria in the gut balance out, a variety of detox responses could occur. Different bacteria feed off different stuff. The cravings could have come from a certain strain demanding to be fed, so when you ate the cooked foods they just had a gorge-fest! Just make note and adjust for next time.

Interesting...my stomach rumbles lately. I have always thought it was due to digestion issues. I was going to get tested, but I don't want to run to the doctor for every little thing.
