OK!! I need some serious help here. We're going to be taking the twins to Walt Disney World for 10 days. Now, I've already gotten the family to agree to go with trail mix (raw nuts, raw coconut, organic raisins, etc) for lunch. Yet, they want to have the "experience" of being at Disney. Hey, I get it---I remember my first time.
I need to mail a box to our hotel (which will contain MY food). I'm already packing the wheat grass juicer (I have a refrig) and a hand blender for smoothies. Yet, I need ideas for non-perishables. Any suggestions? After this it's off to the SAD eating in-laws (luckily she's very supportive and I've already found a organic veggie/raw food supplier for the two weeks).
I want to stay away from Lara Bars, etc. as the sugar content messes with my stomach. I also have trouble with fruit (for now only) due to candida and parasites. Yes, I've become the green queen!!
Any help would be most appreciated as I want to show my family (especially the 7 year old twins) that the experience is about being together on vacation not eating.
Thanks and Namaste---LMT

I was going to mention dried fruits, until I read your problem with them. :(
How about avocados? Sorry, I'm not too much help... dried fruit always saves me when traveling.

Here's a list of farmers markets that might be near you. http://www.florida-agriculture.com/consumers/farmers_markets.htm
I consider melons, oranges, hard avocadoes and coconuts to be unperishables=) But they would be expensive to ship.
If nothing else, I'd be sure to go to a grocery store for things to add to restaurant salads at the very least.
What kinds of dry ingredients do you like to make salad dreessings or soups with? Herbs, sea salt, nuts, pepper--You can pack these in little bags.
Good luck and have fun!

Disney is (very) slowly becoming more vegan/raw friendly. A lot of vendors within the park, at least at the CA location, now sell fruit and vegetables. Heck, I even saw a place selling vegan gumbo! I know that isn't raw, but still!

Thanks for all of your help. As we all know, this journey can be very frustrating as society hasn't fully turned over to the idea of including raw (except salad) food. I appreciate you help!---LMT

Having lived on the Southwest coast of Florida... I have to say... there's better fresh fruit options at the grocery stores there. Publix is great, I'm not sure about Orlando...and it's natural food stores, but would be worth googling to find out.
And contact Disney hotels, etc...they probably can answer some of your questions about where to eat around the Disney grounds. I would imagine they have many families contacting them to find out about their food options when so many kids have food allergies these days. But sounds like here comes the fresh fruit smoothies!
Here in North Carolina I noticed one of our salad bar type restaurants now has vitamix type blenders to do smoothies for their customers. They don't have a fruit bar.. but got a great idea to blend greens off the bar with cucumbers, carrots, etc. for a green smoothie.
Hope it all works out... wish I had better travel advice, you do have a job on your hands... but you guys will feel better for it while on vacation!

Disney restaurants are supposed to be great at working with your dietary requirements. I haven't tried this myself yet (next trip isn't until Nov) but if you wanted to try for the experience of eating at the parks, I would pick some places and give them a call to see if they can work with you. Can't hurt to at least ask :)

Stay well clear of Disney, and keep your offspring well away from it.
Disney is nothing but a massive propaganda machine and mind-control operation. Its very purpose is to condition children into behaving in a certain way, believing in a certain way, and thinking in a certain way.
Disney conditions children into becoming small-minded, sexist, ageist, racist, dumbed-down empty vessels.
Their cartoons are full of subliminal messages about sex and death. I would urge you to protect your children from the insidious machine that is Disney.
The Disney version of reality- the one they program children into beholding - is far from wholesome and salubrious, and far from innocuous. They just tell you it is these things.
Do some research on it. Become symbol literate and you will easily spot the occult and Satanic symbols which abound in Disney cartoons and images.
Spot the hidden word, which appears for only a fraction of a second in the cartoon?

I got married at Disney.....I don't think I'm any of the things that you mentioned IMO. I believe that it's about the parents teaching the children. My children don't watch Disney aimlessly. Yet, we enjoy going to WDW to be together as a family. This is a choice that we make.
Thanks so much for the ideas.---LMT

I just got back from a camping trip and Russell James' Mediterannean Bread saved my......um.......eggplant bacon, hehe. I had it with some sunflower seed pate that tastes kinda like ham and some lettuce with some vinaigrette dressing........ummmmmmmm. Because it stays soft and is so flavorful, you really can use it like thin sandwich bread. I am now imagining all kinds of tasty combinations. I froze it in baggies and it kept well for the 5 days I was camping. I ate it every day.

I don't think I'm any of the things that you mentioned IMO.
If you were under mind control, how would you know?
This is about scientific subconscious programming. Disney is an insidious organisation, and any naivety on your part will not alter that fact.
I believe that it's about the parents teaching the children.
The thoughts and beliefs of children are determined by their environment and by the things they are exposed to. After exposure to the power of Disney, anything you then tell them with regard to how they should not take it seriously and how reality and nature really is not like that, etcetera, does nothing to mitigate the damage that has already been done to their subconsciousness.
Think of it this way: Is it OK to pour strong acid over a child if a parent with a single paper towel is standing by ready to wipe it off?
My children don't watch Disney aimlessly. Yet, we enjoy going to WDW to be together as a family. This is a choice that we make.

I think you should re-evaluate your choices. There are plenty of things to do as a group which do not involve insidious conditioning, commercialism, and the rest of the damaging things associated with Disney. You obviously have an emotional connection with the place, from a time when you knew no better. But please don't let that influence your choices concerning your charges - your children.
You have no idea of the highly developed methods Disney, and other such organisations, employ when it comes to brain washing children, and others. Clearly you have a lot invested in this idea but if you really do care about your offspring you will heed my warnings and at the very least conduct some proper research into what I have conveyed to you. You have a clear responsibility to do so.

I'm all for critiquing how one another eats as that's what the forum is for---HELP with one another on the raw journey.
The choices I make for my family are out of bounds and unappreciated. If your point is to make me feel bad, you've succeeded. I'm sorry that I brought up where I was going. My point was only some assistance on food choices.---LMT

Okay. Let's be "gentle" with each other here please. This board is not for critiquing others' choices, but helping each other to learn to be healthy. Where one chooses to vacay, or live, or play - that is THEIR choice.
Please, let's keep this post friendly...

VfL, I am not intending to contravene your decree but my intentions have clearly been misconstrued. So, in light of LMT's last post, I am compelled to reply to try and set the record straight.

LMT, it is purely my intention to help you and your brood. I am sorry that you read my post as an attack, because it was certainly not that.
It would sadden me if you are unable to take advice and heed warnings because you perceive them as an attack. If everyone in the wrong dismissed corrective advice through such reasons as ego, and so on, then everyone would continue to behave in less than optimal ways -to state the least - and others would be deterred from offering advice again. In fact, that is generally the state of the world today, and I think it is time that situation changed.
Clearly you disbelieve me about Disney. I hope that, instead of attacking me and wrongly accusing me of attacking you, you will become receptive to what I wrote and investigate.
One major reason why so many are unreceptive to raw food is because their egos will not allow them to accept that they have been doing the wrong thing for so long; they have too much invested in it (life-long cooked diet) and are unable to take such a truth blow. You seem to have realized some truths about the mainstream dietary paradigm. Perhaps you can use your experience in other areas and accept that maybe it wasn't just the old diet that was the wrong thing to do.

I---Point taken the first time you wrote. I saw that you were actively trying to help and took it as such---I just disagreed. Also, this is nothing that I haven't heard before.
I am most capable of being critiqued on any aspect of my life, BUT there is a difference between giving friendly advice and berating one with an opinion. I heard you the first time, I read it, responded, etc. I didn't feel that any other response to that subject was necessary.
Did I feel attacked, well, yes. As I said, once was enough---I got it. I respect your opinion and choose to leave it at that.
In terms of my wanting raw food for my diet: I was overdosed by a doctor who put me into seizures many times over (now on meds for that) to "help me" deal with IBS and Candida. My family struggled and went through he** until my EGO kicked in and said no more. Raw food is not a "kick" for me it is a necessity for both the emotional and physical well-being of myself and my family.
I'm sorry that we disagree about a small subject area, but I would hope next time that you understand that, although we disagree, the road to a raw lifestyle is precious for the ones that desire it.---LMT

Infinitus,
What are the stars supposed to be saying in the picture? I think I see an "X" but I'm not sure. I wouldn't be surprised if some wiseguys snuck stuff in here and there. Now I'm curious. btw, we are going next month to WDW too and since our package includes the dining plan (it was cheaper that way) we are doing buffets whenever possible for the fruit and veggies. Also, I am bringing coconut larabars, avos, and apples. My kids don't even watch Disney and have no idea about the characters. Still, I know we'll have a good time. When they are older we can go on more meaningful adventures. Maybe ;-)

Awww you got married there?? That's so fantastic - I'm jealous! :D That was totally my dream idea for my wedding and then I kinda chickened out because the long-distance planning seemed so difficult. I hope to do like a 10 yr vow renewal there though so I'll still get a magical day. We are taking our kiddo for her first trip in Nov... she's not due until next month though so she'll probably be too small to care if she sees Mickey or not, lol :D
I hope you have an absolutely wonderful time on your trip with your family. I know it will create a ton of great memories your kids will treasure for a lifetime :D
