How do solve the protein thing if you lift weights? I had been told you need protein to build muscle.... how do you supplement? Thanks for your answers?

WinterSun,

These are my favorite pictures of raw muscles.

http://www.doctorgraham.cc/ (http://www.doctorgraham.cc/) -Doug - When you get there click on gallery, then scroll down and open ‘can you do this.’ I like the playground tricks album.

http://www.ringlet.org/photos/progress/index.php (http://www.ringlet.org/photos/progress/index.php) Janie - At the bottom of this page she shows her muscles. Somewhere on the site she had pictures of her doing the teacup, can’t find them right now. If you poke around they should still be there. I was just looking at them yesterday.

http://www.thegardendiet.com/storm.html (http://www.thegardendiet.com/storm.html) - Storm as you can see lifts weights as a part of his routine.

Doug and Storm have been doing this for decades; Janie has been raw 3 years.

How could I have forgotten them?

One more that I remembered after reading Doe's post:
http://thegardendiet.com/shannon.html

OH...and Roger Haske:
http://www.superbeingdiet.com/

Just click on the photos to enlarge them. His physique reminds me of the late Bruce Lee - muscular, but lean and not too "beef-cakey".

Rawkinlocs you are absolutly right, his build does look like Bruce Lee. Hubby really liked that man. I can still hear his voice and see his movements in my mind. Don't remember seeing Roger before. Or maybe just didn't make the connection until you pointed it out.

Wow.......that guy Roger is amazing! My mind of course immediately began to think......"what would happen to me if I did no oils, fats or dehydrateds for 30 days?".....definitely something for me to think about. Thanks Rawkinlocs.

Peace.

Peace,

These are some great links you all posted. Very educational, and helps to crush many of the myths that exist about protein and building muscle mass, as far as exactly "how much" and "what to do".
In my view the biggest and strongest argument you can hold to show and prove that Raw works, is looking at the testimony of others. Observing their physical appearance, studying their various philosophies, and hearing their many stories and how they overcame various illnesses, and diseases. And look the way they do! Its an amazing science!

To add-on to this, another link: http://www.rawfood.com

Stephen Arlin is the man who runs this site, and he's the author of the book Raw Power!. Someone on the board mentioned him once before and he talks about how to gain muscle strength and muscle size while eating Raw. I was motivated enough to buy his book. There's 3 editions, the 3rd being the latest. I'm early on in the book, and i've learned so much already on the physiology of the body and how much of a role the way of eating as well as exercise plays in you building THE BODY THAT YOU WANT.
If you wanna build muscle size and strength, and ultimately gain healthy weight, there is a specific structured procedure that you can follow that works. I'm about 2 weeks into that routine now.
And from what i've gathered there's another routine to follow if your desire is to get lean and more cuts rather than trying to gain muscle size. Its a very interesting book.
Just thought i'd add that food to the table. :)

But some of these people are tooooo skinny for my taste!! That is one of my concerns w/raw.... Growing up was so skinny, and honestly, it didn't make me feel all that great. Being a woman, I kind of like having a "little" bit of meat on my bones....... Not a LOT, but, some of these people are so skinny, and I find it a bit disconcerting..... Is it strange of me to think this way?

One of my fears about this way of life is that I will get too skinny, and go from being frustrated by having extra pounds, to frustrated that I am a skinny dork.....

Hi Lauri,

As long as you eat all raw, your body will go to it's optimal weight. You can lift weights to define your body. You could increase your caloric intake for some extra pounds. The important thing is to feel healthy and to be healthy. I would rather be a few pounds under the weight someone thinks I should be and feel fantastic, then to weigh a few more pounds and feel a little tired, or just not right.

You'll have to just try it and see. Maybe being thin and raw will feel a whole lot different to you than when you grew up eating S.A.D. and being thin. And who knows, maybe once you're all raw, you may not become as thin as some other raw foodists. I know a number of raw foodists that are a little "plump".

Is it strange for you to feel this way (being too thin)? No it's not strange. We are basically programmed to think this way. When someone is very thin, people will say "you need a little meat on those bones". They are only interested in how one looks and not in how healthy they are. Having the little bit more "meat" won't make a person healthier but they may look better to others. So no, you're not strange for thinking this way. Just keep reading testimonies of raw foodists that are feeling so good - no headaches, no aches or pains, having energy, feeling positive. That's what I want. HEALTH.

Thanks, Helen!!

Missed you at the last potluck!!! Did you have fun?

But I know what you mean about society.... Yet, society also puts so much pressure on people to be thin.... I just want to not be bony like I saw some people.... Just doesn't look attractive to me...

Hi Lauri,

I know you think some people look bony, but not all raw foodist look that way. I just know you won't be one who looks that way :p You'll look great raw :D

I wanted to come to the last raw potluck to hear Barbara speak but I was in Alabama where I spent 15 hours (over 2 days) training in self defense, terrorist attach defense and weapons. It was a blast - just 5 women from 3 states. We had the whole dojo to ourselves. We did let our husbands come to dinner with us but the dojo was off limits to them except to come in a take some pictures for us. I have to admit that was more fun than the raw food potluck. Good Exercise!!!! Which is important to us who want the best for our bodies.

Okay, that was a little off the subject.

Anyway, I think you could avoid being extremely thin buy weight lifting and increasing your caloric intake or possibly by the food groups you eat. I guess you won't know until you try it. I sure would love to know what it is like to be thin!

Woo Hoo!! Helen! Sounds like great times!

Thanks for saying you don't think I'll get boney : ) I think? : )

Now back to the reason this strand is up, protein...

Lots of great posts. Also, hemp seed is supposed to be an excellen source of protein, isn't it? W/lots of omega 3's and 6's? Alissa has a link on her alissacohen.com website, and actually, she sells it on her website. I am not nuts about the way it tastes, though.

Thanks again, Helen! Looking forward to seeing you again!!

WOW! Thanks for all the links! After I posted my question, I did find a link from a bodybuilder who is Raw, and he addressed the protein issue, my hubby doesn't get it though. Course I won't be working out too much the next 2 weeks as I fell at work on Monday and landed on my knee on HARD slate stairs  You all are soooo helpful :)
