I just finished a book about metal-free dentistry, "Tooth Truth" by Frank J. Jerome, a self defense manual for patients. Don't go near a dentist until you have read this book! He says that dentists are dangerous because they have a mechanical, not a biological, view of their work. He covers all aspects of dentistry, including root canals, crowns, cavitations, implants, mercury fillings, and offers real alternatives. Highly recommended.

Thank you for posting that. As someone who is determined to never have another root canal, it sounds like a book I should read.

thanks, i put it in my amazon whishlist! after watching the beautiful truth, i am never letting a dentist put mercury in my mouth! they'd have to fight me! lol
luckily, i have never had a problem with cavities and have never had any kind of work done on my teeth... i'm 25... so i think that's impressive! my best friend has a mouth full of mercury, and she's only a couple years older than me! so i am very blessed in that regard! (and that we communicate mostly over the phone, so i am not exposed to her mercury emissions! LOL)- then again, doctors always creep me out... especially my doctor... so i try not to ever go to them, unless i am practically on my death bed. lol the same goes for dentists... i think i would try to pull my own tooth before i went to a dentist... don't like 'em.. at all!!!

My dentist is a great guy. I trust him - I just refuse to have any more root canals - I have 3 that I believe were necessary at the time. I grind my teeth bad at night and I killed the tooth down to the root. It was either root canal or eventually abscess and pull tooth. I am interested in what the author has to say as an option. I believe dental health is very important to our overall heath.

Dr. Jerome does not have a cure for bruxism. You need to deal with that. The only alternatives to root canals are prevention and extraction. Obviously the former is better. But metal-free dentistry can reduce the need for crowns, which often pave the way for root canals. He says that 20% of teeth die as a result of being crowned.

Thanks Humanist - I have a mouth guard now that I wear at night. I wake up sometimes clenching it so am glad I am wearing it!! Lets hope that solves my problem. Really had fairly good teeth till I started grinding and clenching a night. I plan to read the book though.
