In our little rural town, everyone's cherry trees are loaded and are just incredible with no worms. Just thought I'd share a couple of things I've done for the first time this year with some of my excess of cherries. First of all I found out you can freeze cherries....so, pick them and put them in a freezer bag with the pit still in them. When you want a little treat just pop one in your mouth and enjoy...they really are great. The froozen fruit comes off the pit very easily. I also ran a bunch through my pitting gizzmo (cherry pitters are pretty cheap - about 15.00) and then I put them into freezer bags and threw them into the freezer. This is the prettiest and yummiest treat you can make with all your froozen cherries that have been pitted. Put a banana into your vita mix, about 1/4 cup cashews, add a couple cups of froozen cherries and about 1/4 tsp almond extract and about 1/2 cup water......zipp it together and presto, you have a treat that can't be anything but delicious because the color is so incredible. Anyway, just thought I'd take a minute and share.....I've hardly been around here since summer hit.....busy, busy. Hope everyone's having a great summer.:)

I love me some cherries! Picked up 6 lbs. at the farmer's market today. Probably should have gotten more since they were so cheap. That recipe sounds DELISH!!!!!
I also love-love cherries. Living in beautiful Washington State - cherries are abundant, however we're coming to the very end of the season this year (whaaa!)
My granddaughter and I picked 50# last week (in about an hour - for a whopping 85¢ per pound), pitted and froze them. They're going to be soooo good this winter. *Ü*

Cool - about the frozen ones as treats! While the cherries were around here, I got a couple of good-sized bags of them, pitted them and dried them - awesome! Threw some fresh ones in the food processor along with frozen bananas, raw cashews, vanilla extract - yummy cherry-vanilla raw ice-cream!

A Friend gave me her Cherry Seed Spittin' Machine so I bought 6 Grocery Bags of Cherries a couple of Month ago because they were 49c a lb. Well the Spitter made a hole and left the seed in. So I gave it to the Truck that comes by for Donations.
I gave what I could away, cut them in halves and Froze some and to keep them from going bad, I cooked the rest. Sure wish I thought about Dehydration ( Cara 4 art).
I Froze some last year and they were SOOOOO Good when Winter came (:D DEbB) But I guess yours only cost Pickin' time Jacsam

I buy fresh cherries in the summer and for most of the year i buy organic frozen cherries which taste excellent when mixed with pomegrantate and blueberries in a smoothie.

I was pleased when I went to the grocery store near my place which generally doesn't have the best selection of produce, only to find Ontario cherries on sale! And white cherries (my favorite).
I've been eating them for the last 3 days. SO good :)
