View Full Version : nectarine seed

I was using nectarines in my smoothy today but left out the seeds. Is it okay to use the seed too? I'm pretty sure vita mix will be able to blend it. Does anybody know if eating the nectarine seed has any benefit?

Crack open the seed and eat the kernal inside. Don't eat the outside shell of the seed, as it is too hard to blend and undigestable. I know your vitamix seems strong, but even the all-powerful vitamix has it's limits. Trust me, I broke the blades of my first vitamix containter. The nectarine kernal has laetrile, also known as vitamin B17, an anti-cancer nutrient. Peach, plum, pear and apricot kernals also have the same anti-cancer benefits.

WOW, I eat apricot kernels on daily basis, but never ate any other kernels.
Do you all do it?
How are they differnt- Nectarines, peaches, plums, I had no idea the kernels were edible!?

I don't know about the stones I wouldn't recommend it. I think it's that hard and undigestable for a reason.
On another note, aren't Apricot Kernels Deathly? I've heard a lot of bad press about them, although I do see them sold in the shop.

Apricot kernels contain cyanide (from Wiki:"On average, an apricot kernel contains about 0.5mg of cyanide.").
Also it contains Vitamin B17 or amygdalin (some are gainst call it vitamin, because, as they point out, it is not necessary for survival), you can find raw, sprouted kernels to buy.
Places that do sell apricot kernels, in most countries, are not allowed, by law, to claim any benifits (aka anti cancer properties) or give information on the quantity to be taken on daily basis.
However, google and the benifits will be clear to you :)

You should only have about 6 apricot kernels per day and nectarine seeds are much bigger but I do not know how much cyanide is in them so you would need to check that.

I want to try that but i am worried about getting sick or dieing from the cyanide.
