Hi,
I'm moonglow...and I have no clue where to begin...I'm interested in
eating raw food..am not sure how to transition to it and don't really know
what things I can't eat. Like for example, protein powders which I use
every morning. I've been using Ultra Clear plus ph by Metagenics as a
detox formula plus I add berries. But what about green powders and
red powders and all those products I've been adding? Would things like
barley grass and wheat grass powdered be allowed? Or must they be
juiced and used raw?
I guess I know that if it's a fruit or a veggie or a cold pressed oil, it's
raw. If it's a nut that hasn't been roasted, it's raw...but do people who eat
raw eat anything cooked? Reason I'm asking is that I have a dog on a raw
food diet for 4 years and she suddenly demanded some cooked food to be
added. She wouldn't eat at all unless we gave her a little big of healthy
canned dog food mixed with her raw patties.
I think I'm just going to have to read all the posts on this forum to get a
sense of this whole process. I have Alissa's book...I bought the enzymes
as a place to start...(the powdered enzymes).
Any advice would be appreciated. Any general information about how it
feels to wake up one day and go in another direction. I'm female and
past the age of 60...fyi.
Thanks in advance.

I appreciate your sense of confidence in me...
I have the book...Thanks I will get the DVD.
Just one question if you know the answer. Why if raw foods have so many
natural enzymes would a person need to take enzymes in addition? Would
those powdered enzymes that Alissa sells (which I already have) help
the body detoxify from having eaten so much animal food?
I would like to find information on this site about enzymes. Do you know
how I would be able to search for that?
Or would someone please be kind enough to link me somewhere.
Thanks. Looking forward to learning all about this.

I think initially one would want to help with the transition, thus taking the enzymes. Check this link out:
http://www.alissacohen.com/shop/Premium-Enzymes-p-34.html
and then this one:
http://www.alissacohen.com/shop/Therapeutic-Enzymes-8oz-p-35.html
I know when I feel off the Raw food wagon I did start taking the enzymes and it really helped me feel better - quicker.
And after re-reading about the Therapeutic Enzymes - they sound WONDERFUL. I took the Premium Enzymes.
I have confidence in you because YOU have confidence in you... ;)

Just because a nut isn't roasted doesn't mean it's raw. U.S. almonds are pasteurized. If you want truly raw nuts you have to ask your supplier how they've been processed. There are also online raw stores that you can buy raw nuts from.

100% raw foodists don't eat cooked food. There are some people who eat "high raw" which means they eat mostly raw food. Alissa promotes 100% raw food. Read my sig.
I don't know why your dog demanded cooked food. Maybe she was just bored with what she was eating. I don't think it necessarily means she NEEDED cooked food, but I'm not a dog expert.

Our vet who is holistic said this happened to his dogs...they got a little
bored of 100% raw foods...Our dog is still eating 90% raw...but goes back and forth demanding new flavors. I add a healthy canned dog food and it's probably only about 10% added to raw just to get her thinking she's gotten a treat. Could be boredom..
As for the raw almonds...I'm buying them in the health food store and
it says on the container...raw organic almonds. I didn't mean to imply
that all nuts would be raw...I was merely explaining that it's obvious
to know if a fruit or vegetable is raw by buying it fresh and I thought
the same goes for labeled nuts and seeds....that I could trust the word
"raw" on the package.. Most of my diet is organic and almost everything is
purchased in a health food store.
Thanks for your links. Interesting information.

My health food store also sells almonds in their bulk bin which says, "raw organic almonds", but they're still pasteurized. I asked the lady that works there and she said they're pasteurized, so you can't necessarily trust the word "raw" on the package. She even said the sprouted "raw" almonds were pasteurized.

You're absolutely correct. I'm realizing that it's difficult to trust the labeling
of nuts now.
It's amazing nuts can be called "raw" when they've been pasteurized.
Can milk be called "raw" if pasteurized? I don't think so...
So, can you trust many online sellers who say their nuts are truly raw?
Any favorite places to shop online?
Oops, sorry for going on and on about nuts...I see this thread was designed for me to introduce myself.

No need to apologize - it's how we are getting to know you!
Alissa's store is GR8!
Then there's Raw from the Farm: http://rawfromthefarm.com/default.aspx
I have found, the longer I've been Raw, the simpler I'm keeping things. Especially in the summer months...I eat seasonally...
Keep asking questions, reading, and learning!
This is such a cool journey!
