A local dentist advertises digital X-rays. Do they offer any advantages for patients, such as lower exposure to radiation?
Hi Humanist ~ I sure wish I had an encyclopedic mind & memory (sigh - ha!), but yes - that's my understanding that digital x-rays are much less radiation than standard. A call to the dentist's office and they should be able to tell you exactly what % less it is. Mine told me but I don't recall.
My dentist offers them - he was recommended to me by my holist MD and that was one of the big reasons why. (My doctor's also not a fan of mammograms because of the radiation hit - he prefers thermography. Our ins. doesn't cover that, but the nearest clinic quoted me a price of $165). *Ü*

One Internet source claims that digital X-rays reduce radiation exposure by 80%.

Yes, at my dentist they said it was 80% less. And she said, it's like standing next to a microwave. I didn't tell her I don't use a microwave :) But it did make me feel better about the x-rays.
