Can I freeze green juice? Will it hurt it? Also can I freeze smoothies?

I am currently doing my 2nd juice fast. I learned alot from my 1st fast and am doing things a little different this time, and they are going somewhat smoother.
I learned from Aleesha about freezing juice and it is saving me immense amount of time. When I make a specific juice, I make alot and freeze some in Mason jars. I also learned not to overfill them as they will explode in freezer :)
Now during my fast I have a wide selection of juice to choose form and don't have to spend time juicing everyday, which is especially nice when my energy levels are really low. When I head off to work I pack my little cooler with 5 or 6 mason jars and I'm good to go. I also keep extra with me in car driving around the kids, or errands. I like the feeling that there is an abundance of juice available to me! One other thing that helps is to "melt" the juice in a bowl of hot water for about 10 min. There's still a large portion of frozen juice in the jar, but it starts and speeds up the melting process.
I know that I'm not maximizing the nutritional value of my juice by freezing and not drinking within the first few minutes made, but, I have justified it by it helps me to fast and its still super nutritious.
Hope that helps!

I freeze almost EVERYTHING! I freeze bananas WITH the peels (then to thaw I put into a canning jar with luke warm water for a bit and when ready to use in recipe, cut the top and pop out the banana). I freeze avocados WHOLE. They thaw wonderfully.

I make numerous recipes, cut in half and freeze. Alissa's calzones freeze great!

I don't care if it takes out some of the nutrients. I am eating so much healthier than ever. And back in the day when we humans foraged for our food, during the frozen months, we'd find berries and such and thaw and eat them, right?

Juices? Heck yeah, freeze 'em all the time. Makes my life easier and healthy!

You can't make juice with bananas?? I have been putting bananas in mine and not liking them as much as I think I should. Thought maybe I just put in too much. Why can't you use bananas and avocados for juicing?

BLENDING, but not juicing. They are not very juicy products. I blend avos and 'nanners all the time. I have never, EVER attempted to juice them...

Hey Lucy!!!! Just curious, how long do you keep your food frozen? Do you have a time limit depending on what the food is?

Thx,

Nee'

Not too terribly long. I don't "do" numbers with a whole bunch of anything anymore, like calories, carbs, etc. Max for juices, maybe a couple weeks. Same with the fruits I guess...
Dates/nuts - another story...longer

i've drank juice that was frozen for almost 3 months... and it tasted the same as fresh. ;)

and nope... avo and bananas don't juice. ;) so don't waste them by putting them into your juicer and watching them come out the other end!

oh, my blender won't even blend up silken tofu.. :/ let alone ginger root! lol and the juice is supposed to be very strong, so the mixing it with water wouldn't be very good, i don't think. but thanks for the suggestion! :)

Hi all
I am new to the site and new to raw food. I am finding it difficult because I get bored eating the same way sometimes and have extreme bread and rice cravings although I think I'm allergic to them, but anyway I do however love green juices. Now that I know I can freeze them in mason jars I will start doing that for the week. My question is I put spirulina and chorella in my juice, is it best to freeze the juice without those two additions and then just add it once the juice has been thawed or is it okay to freeze the spirulina and chorella with the juice? sorry for the long entry but just wanted to share a little bit of myself with you all, Thanks

Hi everyone, :)

I heard that freezing hurts the food quality. It is not good to freeze fresh food. You may freeze vegetables and fruits but I'm not sure about it. It is also not to good to freeze the juice. I never freeze the juice.

I don't agree. I think it's so minute how it alters the quality...but, it's your choice to or not to... ;)

New here and actually my first post.

Ive been getting up early to juice every morning and definitely could use the extra 30min of sleep lol.
What kind of jars are folks using? Should it be the ones with the plastic so its air tight or is a mason jar with a twist off lid ok?

Thanks anad appreciate it.

I use the mason jars. Just do not fill all the way to the top if you are gonna freeze. Leave about an inch!

WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's good news for me that I never thought to ask... I love smashed avocados for a dressing on my salad. I could eat one a day and they are reasonably cheap here... when they are in season.

Right now I am a bit bummed because no more smashed avocados. Not one, not at any price. I may need to buy a small chest freezer to store avocados in for the off season. That is my hardest time of the year being raw.

Thanks for the tip! We will try it as in our small frig freezer as soon as they come back into season...

Hey BodyOilz, I solved this problem a while back. For me the solution was to toss out my TV and go to sleep 30 mins early! Actually I found out that sleeping at 7 pm and waking at 3 am is a much better sleep / wake cycle for me... I could never do that when I was watching TV. I have no idea why this works! But it does work!

(Note: You can still get shows on DVD but save time not watching TV commercials!)

Hi all
I am new to the site and new to raw food. I am finding it difficult because I get bored eating the same way sometimes and have extreme bread and rice cravings although I think I'm allergic to them

Listen to your body talk! You will hear that said a lot on this site.

You may have a real problem with grains - especially cooked grains - many people do. I have Celiac Disease - an autoimmune system disease that is triggered by gluten in wheat, barley and rye and some oats. It is genetic. 1% of Americans have it and 97% of the people who have it don't know it. When I was finally diagnosed it was like, "so I am really not crazy after all!"

It destroys your small intestines. If it has not done too much damage you can reverse it by avoiding gluten. Raw food is a great way to do that.

Cooked Carbs (like bread, rice and potatoes) are predigested so they supply your body with a nice load of toxins. I forget the names but some are known to cause some kinds of cancer. Because of the damage caused by untreated Celiac for 52 years, I can no longer tolerate rice and corn. In fact the only grain I can handle at all is sprouted millet!

Your extreme bread and rice cravings are likely more habit that real cravings. However, Celiac Disease made me crave food that diabetics should not eat, like too much carbs, and over time I gained 300 lbs and developed a serious need for insulin. I was told by my doctor I was diabetic and would need that meds for the rest of my life. Raw living food cured me! I've also lost over 200 lbs so far! :D

A good idea for cravings is to make a lot of new stuff! Avoid what your body tells you is wrong. Don't cook (we tossed the stove!). Don't get bored - make something different every day - be excited - get involved with your new lifestyle (forget dieting! This is not a diet - it is a choice to have a better lifestyle!).

Find a new comfort food. I love one day mung bean sprouts. I also love taking a bite out of a fresh ripe tomato! Don't slice it - that is salad food. Just bite it, that is real comfort! At the end of my exercise walk in the morning I bite a tomato - I love the Italian roma ones!

Find the raw comfort food that is for you... we are all different you know! :)

Figure out your alive food. Figure out your terms too... Have fun! :D We are starting to use terms like Alive Food - many use Live Food or Living Food or just RAW!!! Some call cooked food as dead food, bad food, or like us, we just call it poison! :( We do not cook food, we create wonderful meals! Some prepare, some fix, some make, some wizz-it!

Enjoy! Make Live Food friends! See if you have a buddy you can share with. Make friends on this forum! Share whatever raw food knowledge you have with others! Online or in person! Get involved outside of yourself!

If you have no raw food knowledge, here is one to start with... bananas are wonderful!

This is all about having a better life so live your dreams. Pretty soon bread and rice and other poison like that will stop calling your name. It doesn't take that long till you wonder why you ever lived any other way!

I still have cravings, right now I am craving an avocado... must be time for a green smoothie! Darn Avocado tree, I wish it was always in season!

Please talk to your doctor about being tested for Celiac Disease if you are having allergic problems with bread. MANY people have it and do not know about it.

Hey Aleesha!

My friend tells me if you peal and freeze a banana and run it through a Samson or champion juicer it will come out like soft ice cream! He has served it to unknown SAD eaters with a few nuts mixed in and they raved about his wonderful homemade ice cream! They had no idea it had no cream or sugar!

I don't yet have a Samson, but I would like to try this with our kids!

Hi Lan ~ We do this with lots of different frozen fruits in the Champion (with the blank plate, not the regular juicing plate). My favorite is banana, but my husband likes apricot, strawberry, peach - the list goes on and on! Our grandkids love it! *Ü*

I looked all over today for mason jars and finally found them. I have having a lot of difficulty juicing consistently in the winter. It is hard because I want coffee and by the time I do that I don't feel like going through the process. I LOVE smoothies but it is cold here so I am not taking them out with me like the summer. This thread ched some light on me being able to consistently juice for the winter. I am all set with my recipes and my jars. I know that it is not as good as drinking it right away but every little bit helps. Can you add honey to your juice and freeze it?
