View Full Version : taste buds gone all wacky

I have been high raw for a few months now and every couple weeks I seem to discover something else that my body doesn't want anymore but starting last Saturday my taste buds are seriously outta whack.
The couple of things that I sometimes still eat that aren't raw taste off. I just had some Laughing Cow cheese and it tasted sour, on Sunday I had some boxed cereal that was so sweet I couldn't eat it, today I switched to Raisin Bran but the raisins were disgusting, on Saturday I had some dip that was so salty I couldn't use it and even coffee has been tasting like a cup of chemicals lately.
All these things are basically the only things that aren't raw in my diet. All the raw stuff tastes exactly the same, the veggies, the leafy greens, the fruit....... so it's gotta be my body telling me it doesn't want that stuff anymore.
Has this happened to anyone else? I mean I realize it happens - but so many different things all at the same time? This was like overnight!

yup... this is normal. it's your body's way of letting you know it doesn't want that stuff anymore.
congrats!!!

Now you're tasting those things the way they really are! That should reinforce your new raw habits that you are forming. I know about things tasting different - sometimes one is REALLY tempted by this or that food one used to eat prior to going raw, and then one does, it just doesn't taste as good as one thought it would, or you feel downright lousy after eating it. Not long ago, I slipped and ate a few white starchy things, and I swear, I had a carb hangover the next day! Frederic Patenaude had a good saying not too long ago - once one goes raw, it's pretty hard to just go back to SAD like nothing happened. You'll almost always come back to raw sooner or later. Best of luck to you on your raw journey!

i was joking with my mom earlier today.. i said...
are you sure that what you're eating is really healthy?... (asks the person who is eating carcinogenic, pesticide ridden, saturated fat laden pasta and/or meat)...
raw food sounds so extreme (says the person who eats raid with their fruit for breakfast)...
some "organic" (i made bunny ears) food isn't really organic... it has chemicals on it anyway.. (says the person who doesn't understand that one may be iffy, but the other is guaranteed to contain bug spray)
lol it was more funny in person. i am very animated. anyway. :)
congratulations on losing the taste for non-raw stuff! :D

Ya know, it's funny but I don't get cravings for SAD food anymore. This journey has been soooo easy for me, all I've done is just listen to my body and give it what it wants. The pounds are still dropping off, all of my aches and pains have disappeared, I feel fabulous and I eat whatever I want - it's like Heaven almost, lol!
It pains me when I read how people are struggling, it really shouldn't have to be that hard.

but for some it is that difficult and just because you are in the flow right now doesn't mean you can't have a set back later. we are all human and we are all learning :)

Aleesha is spot on, Betty!
At least 3 times I've thought: wow - I have no desire for anything that isn't raw anymore.....
But then something bubbles to the surface, and I'm dealing with weird cravings - usually for things that I never liked that much anyway.......
There are twists and turns in the journey - sometimes backpedalling. Be forewarned!
We each have to follow our own, too. In the grand scheme of karmas - who knows why one person's lot is more difficult than another's - or why our particular trials have been laid before us? No matter how uneven or unfair it may seem to ourselves or others - nothing any of us can do but deal with what is 'on our plate' so to speak.

lol yeah...most cooked food tastes pretty flavorless anymore. And I got a stomachache for hours after eating 1 spoonful of peanut butter, which used to be something I couldn't live without!

Yeah anything cooked, seasonings, dressings, sauces all taste too spicey, too sweet, to salty... i am always turned off of the taste and smell of cooked food now. It's quite interesting

my friend's son (baby raw alex) can be offered a 'dead' food and he knows it right away. he replies most often by saying 'what are you doing? trying to kill me or something?' (he's almost 4 LOL)
amazing what a raw child who's never eaten cooked foods can 'sense' - i'm always amazed hearing his stories.
