Hi,
What do you guys and girls think about Raw Honey and Raw Oats?
Years ago I made some really nice food by mixing Honey, Oats and Almond Butter together, spreading it onto a tray and leaving it to set in the fridge. The only problem was the honey and oats weren't raw back then!
I want to make this again, but would like to know generally what you people here think about Honey and Oats in their raw form. For example, would Raw honey spike your blood sugar, and would it be safe for diabetics? What about any effect on your teeth, as honey is so thick, I can just see it now - the honey going in all the "hard to brush" places in your mouth.
And raw oats - do these dehydrate you? Are they a nutural food for a human? Can they be hard to digest?

I use a little raw honey in herbal tea and salad dressings. In theory, the pollen in it should help my allergies. I bought some true raw rolled oats online and use them to make blender oatmeal on cold mornings. I've thought about making the raw equivalent of no-bake cookies, but never have tried this. I'm OK with most grains - digestively speaking - so long as they aren't really high in gluten. Raw oatmeal, spouted oat grouts, sprouted quinoa, sprouted buckwheat groats - love 'em all. Spouted wheat - no so much.

Have you used Agave Nectar. It's like honey but comes from a cactus. I think it might work in the recipe and Agave Nectar is Vegan. :)

Thanks for the rplies.. I forgot about Agave.. I might try that instead, but - although Raw Honey isn't vegan I probably would still go for it. It's probably the only non-vegan thing I would go for, because there aren't any negatives too honey are there? I mean it's completely different to cows milk for example isn't it - which has a lot of bad points about it! I got the impression honey has only good things, although my ownly concern is the blood sugar thing.. does it spike your blood sugar levels, and how does this compare with Agave, and is it safe for diabetics?

yes, it does spike your blood sugar... in regards to negatives.. here ya go (http://www.vegetus.org/honey/honey.htm).
in regards to agave, a lot of raw food people don't use it, because they don't believe it to be actually raw.. here's more info on it (http://www.living-foods.com/articles/agave.html).
stevia (http://www.stevia-plant.com/) is more common. (that may not be the best source, but it is a source lol)

Thanks.. I shall avoid Honey now and go for Agave - as i'm pretty sure the website that i buy raw foods from emphasis the Agave as definatly raw.
