Has anyone heard of or tried the African dance workout called Joneeba (http://www.joneeba.com/index.html)? I ran across a book on it in Big Lots! today and it intrigued me. Just wondering if anyone has the DVD or has tried one of the classes?

I never ordered the DVD. I had a similiar African Dance DVD that seemed to have "walked off" on its own:). I've thought about ordering this one though.

Hah... don't you just love when things walk off all by themselves?

Do you remember the name of the other DVD you had? I put a few different ones in my Netflix queue to try out.

I took one of their classes at their dance and drum center in manhattan, if we're talking about the same thing. However, the dance center spells it like Djoniba not Joneeba. And, while it was definitely a workout, the class was never described as a workout and didn't have anything to do with yoga or anything like that. It was just straight up African dance. Some of the women in my class were so incredible and had been doing it for years. It's really cool to walk into a dance studio and see a lot of older sisters who can move like I can only dream of moving! For me, the class was very difficult because I'm a horrible dancer and it wasn't really for beginners (my mistake!), and so it was awkward and I think i got in people's way. But overall, it was a cool thing.

Yes, that's the same thing. Djoniba, I believe, is how the originator spells his name, however, I'm not sure why the spelling was changed.

How cool that you at least tried it though. Kudos! I'm not near a studio or anyone who teaches it (as far as I know anyway) but I'm thinking that trying the moves at home might be fun. Going to a studio would terrify me since I tend to be VERY uncoordinated.

That sounds interesting. I looked up on amazon, but they have a just a book- is it possible to learn the dance just from the book?

I looked at the book in the store and it just teaches the idea behind it and the individual moves. If you go to the website they sell the DVD.
