View Full Version : what do you eat when you feel like you wanna puke?

Or, more specifically, what kinds of foods do you eat when you are nauseated/have vomitted recently? When I was eating SAD, I'd eat plain rice or saltine crackers. The idea of eating anything but mushy plain starches kind of makes my stomach turn right now. The thought of salad or fruit or fatty raw things just makes me really nauseated.
Or perhaps I should give food a rest completely and just stick with water right now. I'm sure my body will tell me what's right, but i was just curious about other people's experiences. I suspect I puked this morning and feel this way now because I overindulged in coconut oil and avocados yesterday. The other idea is that this might be a little detox, and in that case, I don't want to slow it down. Again, I know my body will let me know what's right, but I'm just interested in what other people do now that they don't use those familiar sad remedies (chicken soup, plain rice, etc.)
thanks for your help!

I would drink plenty of water. Maybe, your body is telling you it needs a flush? Green Juice could be good. And if you need something more substantial maybe a banana or a green soup.
Hope you feel better

Green smoothies for me. When I am ill a simple green smoothie of frozen bananas, fresh spinach and some water is the smoothie that I like the most. It might sound yucky if youve never had it, but it is very creamy, plain and soothing.
I hope you feel better!

I buy powdered ginger capsules at the health food store and keep them around just for this purpose. Ginger is documented to be more effective for nausea then just about anything. If you prefer a more natural solution, buy ginger root and brew a tea from fresh grated ginger.

Nothing. If I feel to, water or coconut water.

Ginger tea or chamomile tea will settle your stomach. Do you know why you are sick? If it's something you ate I would definitely do a day or two water fast.

Nothing!!! your body is wanting to get RID of something, not take anything in other than maybe small sips of plain water, or with a bit of peppermint, ginger, or chamomile, all natural tummy soothers. Give the idea of food a rest until you really feel better, and when you do, keep it very simple, like a mashed banana with a little natural sweetener if you want. Coconut water will be very helpful too as this replaces electrolytes lost in vomiting or diarrhea. The sweetness will help your digestion get back on track. If indeed your nausea is due to something you ate or a bug, it's just going to have to run its course and you taking time off from food. Feel MUCH better soon!(((HUGS)))

coconut oil and advocado both are really pretty oily stuff ;)
i like the suggestions of ginger (raw) and a banana. i wouldn't eat citrus fruits or like watermelon yet... nor something oily like what you already ate. if you're hungry then that's a good sign of healing.
personaly i go by intuition. if the thought of eating something makes me feel worse i avoid it. if something doesn't then whatever i have around i might take a couple bites and see what happens.. like a few grapes.
but i tell you what... if you have food posion and can't poop but have bad stomach pains and cramps... even if you can vomit but still feel sick... take about 1/2 teaspoon of epsom salt and mix w/ water and drink it. it takes the posion out and you'll go to the bathroom a number of times.
i did this by intuition a couple years ago having food posion for a couple days and finaly did this and felt 85% better within a couple hours and 99% better by next morning.

If I'm super sick & can't even drink water, I make ginger tea.
If water will settle, then I add coconut water.
If I can eat something, then I eat banana.

I'll agree with those who said "eat nothing". Wait until your body is ready.
