I'm hooked on The Date People and their Barhi dates, but their new crop won't be available until October. I am on their waitlist, but I'll be going into withdrawals soon. For the interim, I'm looking for a supplier of organic dates and plan to order just enough to last me until October. I've heard a lot about the Medjool variety, and maybe would like to have an opportunity to taste them.

Can you share any favorite organic date vendors with me?

Medjool is not a brand name. It's just a type of date.

I get my medjools at Whole Foods.

Trader Joe's! But I don't think the ones there are organic.

Are there any Pakistani shops or other Middle Eastern types of grocery places around? They often have nice, fresh dates for reasonable prices.

Organic dates should be easy to find. What state are you in if you don't mind saying?

if you live in a warmer climate, you can have your own date trees. here's a supplier (http://www.tytyga.com/product/Medjool+Date+Palm+Tree).

Country Life Natural Foods (www.clnf.org) is where I get mine. They sell the organic Medjool Dates as well as date paste which is what I get most often. They are really good. This is a link to the online catalog page with the pricing.

Oh yeah, and if you order, you have to request a copy of their catalog. They don't just automatically think you want one and send it along with the order.

I'm fortunate in that our local health food store carries organic dates for $3.60 per pound. *Ü*

Wow 3.60 is awesome - I pay 7.99 for California Organic Medjool Dates. Plus lately when I go the box is almost empty and they don't look great. I bought 1 yesterday, lol!

Thank you all! I haven't been impressed with the selection of organic Medjools here so I'm going to be making some phone calls this morning. We have Costco but it didn't say organic on the label.

Hi Taysia ~ I contacted the grower of the medjool dates our Costco carries and no, they are not organic. They're both sprayed and then fumagated. I saved the email from him if you're interested. Or - do a banana search here, the info's been posted. Having said all that, I've bought Costco's dates.

Since you're "overlooking the Pacific Ocean" - you may like to check out Azure Standard (http://www.azurestandard.com). (Since they deliver to CA, OR and WA - plus many other states). I love them and order about $200 worth of food and other items every month.

Here's their organic date info. You have to sign up to see prices, but anyone can see what they carry:

Hi Deb!

Thank you for the helpful info. You're awesome! I clicked on Azure Standard and they do carry an impressive selection, don't they?

Hi Taysia ~ Yes, they do! You can request a catalog - they allow 1 free catalog per customer. They carry so many different things.

I found out about them last year, but didn't start ordering from them until this Spring. I've placed 3 orders and will continue to order monthly. They even carry fresh organic produce. But, as with anything - it pays to know comparable prices. I can get better prices on the produce at our Farmer's Markets right now. But the other things I order are the least expensive I have found. *Ü*

Just got my last order from Country Life Natural Foods. I paid $4.25 per pound for Organic Whole Medjoul Dates. If I had gotten 15 pounds it would have been only $3.75 per pound. Very quick shipping got my order in 2 business days. I like that!!:):)
