Im going to a camp for about a week and since I'm new to being 100% raw I have no idea as to what I can bring for food.
I need food for the van ride up and back which is about 15 hours.
The camp will be serving fresh fruit and veggies but I also need ideas on what could last the week so I can have it for the van ride home. What type of fruits and veggies can be left out if the refrigerator for a lengthy time?
Im planning on bringing larabars since they will last, apples/bananas/oranges for the van ride up. What are some other ideas? Are there any snacks I can buy from a health store or a Trader Joes or something?

Edit: I also don't have a dehydrator

hey lionette

i camp frequently in the summer, and your idea to bring larabars, apples/bananas and whatnot is great. dates would last as well, and raw seeds/nuts. my perspective is any sort of tropical fruit will do ok out of the fridge for awhile, so long as when its initially bought it isn't ripe yet. i've brought a jar of unopened raw almond butter before, and left it unopened until the car ride home - i was a little nervous about whether it'd go rancid, but i figured it might be all right since it's stored on grocery store shelves rather than in the fridge section, and it worked for me..no rancidity, just yummy almond butter to go on my bananas/apples.

also, not sure if HFS around you sell raw crackers, but i brought a couple boxes of raw crackers that i bought from whole foods. i'd imagine if your HFS does sell raw items, any of the raw crackers or cookies would keep. i'm not big on the "processed" raw items, but they're fantastic for situations like this.

have fun :)

Thanks Eatyourbroccoli!

One more thing,
I've never been to trader joe's before, and I was wondering if they sell raw snacks? (ex larabars) If you know of any they sell care to share what the name is? =D

i haven't lived near a trader joe's in 4 or so years, but even back then they sold larabars and raw almond butter. the whole foods stores around here sell raw snacks (larabars, packaged raw cookies, raw crackers, etc.), not sure if there's a WF near you, but you could look there too. it seems each store differs in what they offer, despite being the same chain. we also have a store called king soopers around here..like a safeway or a jewel or a dominicks or a hyvee..and they sell larabars. seems with the large renovation of most mainstream grocery stores over the past couple of years, many have chosen to include some more raw items (almond butter, bars, kombucha, seeds, nuts, etc.)

sorry i can't be more help..each individual store just differs so greatly, but i think you'd have good luck at any health food store..trader joe's included :)
