Hi,

I just want to talk about fruit.. because it was becoming a good debate in the "800 calories a day" thread, until someone looks like closed it down, probably just because i mentioned, extremely briefly, another raw fooders name... which im really not happy about because i am struggling with life at the moment and am only trying to get advice on how to eat. I was not talking about her specificly at all.

Anyway, i was talking generally about MY daily plan:

Breakfast:

Vegetable Juice (cucumber or celery juice etc)
Nut milk in a bowl of fresh fruit.

Midday

Big Salad (lots of leafy greens, avocoado or oilives for fat, lots of salady veg etc)

Afternoon/Evening:

Another big slad as before
Fruit and Leafy Green Smoothie

I was told before that that was no where near enough fruit! So.. the fruit i wold eat in the morning would be around 150-200g of Soft Fruit (either strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, plums etc...) and for in the Fruit/Greens smoothie, either 4-5 apples, or big bunch grapes etc, etc...

Is this not enough fruit in a day? If not has much is enough, or a recommended minimum?

Thanks, James

hi jolie - when you say 5 fruits, are these 5 different fruits in any sort of portion? Like 1 apple, handful of blueberries, handful of raspberries, 1-2 bananas, 1 mango. Could it be sometihng like that you would eat?

Why is the calorie count so important to you? Just eat as much of a fruit or a vegetable as it takes to satisfy your hunger. Then eat again when you are hungry again. Don't worry about how much it is in calories. As I mentioned in your other post, calories are not important, the nutrient density is what's important to your body and your health.

hi emmat - i go on (and on...) about calories because i am underweight, and not feeling healthy.. and when you feel like this... i dunno.. maybe you make things more complicated than you should!! I will tho just eat until i feel satisfied... i'll give it a go and see how i feel.

James,

Go to fitday.com and you can count your calories there along with the percentages and amounts of Carbs, Protein, and Fat.
I have learned the keeping my Fat low and Carbs high I feel more energetic. I eat alot of Bananas and Mangos and they are higher in calories. I'm working on lowering my weight not gaining but, depending on what you want your diet to be as far as Fat intake I would up my Bananas, mangos, papayas, etc. I know some people who eat 5-10 bananas a day.

I'm confused, in the previous post you were asking if it's enough but sounded like you were fine with eating so little.

And now you are saying that you are underweight and that's why your concerned and you are still asking if its ok to eat your current amount of food?

If you are underweight and/or not feeling vibrant and have high energy on raw, then you need to look at what you're eating and start adapting it.

5 pieces of fruit a day is really not even meeting the reccommended amount on a SAD diet. And from personal experience i would not be able to sustain my health, mood, or energy with such little fruit. I eat a minimum of 12 servings of fruit a day sometimes 20, depending how active I am and that's good sized fruit, not little apples or mandarins.

It's large mangoes
bananas
grapes
melons
giant navel oranges
berries
whole cucumbers
etc

I rarely ever eat fruit. I don't like it. Sweet fruit that is. I do eat things like tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers.

I was actually worried about starting to have too much sugar, isn't it way too much sugar eating so much fruit every day?

Think of it this way...fruit is high in calories...fat is high in calories. If you're not eating enough of one, you'll have to be eating more of the other. I've seen people eat high fat for awhile and eat high fruit for awhile...and it really only becomes 'too much' if you're eating Both high fat And high fruit. ...Someone who I forget, had been raw for 20 years and that's what he found...one or the other, but not both. I personally prefer high fruit...I feel better, I glow better and it tastes better.

Even on a SAD diet this rings true...it's either low fat or low carb. If you do both low fat and low carb you're not going to thrive. If you do high fat nd high carb, you're going to put on weight.

I'm not sure what your goals are...looks to me like you're making up the difference with fat in your salads calorically.

I think it was just suggested that you try and shift the bulk of your calories over to fruit rather than fat. I would not however just up your fruit and keep your fat the same. All you can really do is experiment a bit! How much calories you need via fruit or fat, is Largely relative to how much energy you expend.

Lots of fruit and green smoothies makes you quite vibrant I find.

this has nothing to do with your fruit intake but have you thought about adding in some chlorella (http://www.alissacohen.com/shop/Chlorella-Tablets-250mg-tablets-1000-tabs-p-62.html), spirulina (http://www.therawfoodworld.com/affiliate_show_banner.php?ref=199&affiliate_pbanner_id=1001900), hemp seed nuts (http://www.alissacohen.com/shop/Hemp-Seed-Nut-12oz-raw-organic-p-9.html) (hemp hearts) and chia seeds (http://www.therawfoodworld.com/affiliate_show_banner.php?ref=199&affiliate_pbanner_id=1002259)?
