The skeets are eating me alive this summer!
All my life - I've been invisible to mosquitoes. I'd go to the forest preserve at night with friends, They'd all have 20 mosquito bites, I'd have 1-2.
Not now, I feel like I'm being feasted on!
Sure most of raw is all good, but as I read on this very forum - raw isn't all rainbows and unicorns!

Interesting. I'm having the opposite experience. Himself gets chewed up. He's like mosquito bait. They pretty much leave me alone.

That's interesting Revvel,
It was sure great to be invisible before.....
The PLUS side is - that they go away real quick! 8-24 hours without scratching, and it's gone, used to be several days.....
But a few bites had my clothing or shoe or something "scratching" them - then it got a little out of control....

Well thanks Aleesha! So you can smell me right through cyberspace, huh?
I've been eating so much fruit lately - I thought it might be sugar related, but if you lot are having the opposite huh, I'm stumped.
Maybe we have a particularly bad episode right now in the area, IDK, guess I'll have to observe the whole deal over time....

Allegedly, including brewer's yeast in your diet is supposed to ward off the skeets as they are definitely turned off by that smell. My older next door neighbor has been tying Bounce dryer sheets around her neck and says that so far, it works pretty well.
As for me, I have whopping allergies to gnats and black flies (small, evil creatures), so I either spritz down with Cutter or wear long sleeves and pants. I never go outside without wearing my broadbrimmed hat outfitted with a bug veil. One tiny bite turns into an angry 3" raised red welt in less than 30 minutes, to be followed by generalized swelling of the afflicted body part. You can imagine what happened when I got one in my eye. So then I have to take 2 Benedryl and I'm pretty much out of commission for 36 hours or until the Bennie wears off. I prefer to take whatever means necessary to avoid the situation.
We don't have many mosquitoes here, but the gnats can drive you buggy.

I thought I was being eaten alive, never had this many bumps on me in my life. The weird thing was that they seemed to show up at night and I knew there were no mosquitoes in my bedroom. Turned out to be hives, not so nice little side effect of detox. Might that be your problem, or do you actually see the little buggers munch on you?

Me too! And my husband too -- he's a carnivore, gets munched up. And I just "lalalala" float along, no bug spray, no worries.

I've gone through life being "invisible" to bugs too. I went away last weekend and was bitten twice! Never before has this happened.
T-Bird, I feel your pain (or itch, in this case).

Well - there is certainly something diet related here - but I can't think....
hmmmmmmmmmmmm - I used to consume TONS of garlic, and hardly any now, wonder if that could be it?
OMG - I will no longer be impervious to vamps either!
Well - they're kind of sexy and "in" this year - maybe a good thing!:p

Me too. I used to get bitten easily. Not anymore.

Yep, me 5th. :) I use to get bitten more than anyone and now I never do.
T-Bird, for me I believe it is because of garlic. Seems to offer me protection. Occasionally I will get bitten, but it won't itch or anything. It's very cool. Especially since I enjoy walking at night and living in a hot climate, there's no escaping them.

That's funny. I used to get eaten up like crazy. This year I've had one bite. I have a friend who's been raw for 17 years and says she can't remember the last time she was bitten. Something about the mosquitoes aren't attracted to you as much when your blood is clean.

Same here, mosquitoes leave me alone now. I noticed that since going raw. There are an increase of them it seems but i don't get more bite then anyone else and i seem to be least attack now, which i really enjoy.

not sure what your perspective is on garlic, but the word on health street is if you consume more garlic, you'll be more resistant to mosquitoes. maybe before raw you consumed more garlic than you do now? from what i've read, how attracted they are to you has to do with the subtle body odor you emit..seems all the raw food has just made you irresistibly sweet :D
no, but seriously..it has. try some garlic. :p :)
