To start my new raw life, I did a sea salt cleanse yesterday and ate raw for the rest of the day. Is doing this once considered as a cleanse? Am I detoxed, or do I need to do it repeatedly? For one hour I was up and in the loo frequently... all liquid in the end. But I did not have any weight loss... maybe a pound or two, thats it.

I want to rid myself of toxins before I get going on the raw diet. Can I juice only for the next few days? Or am I good?

I don't think it can be done in a few days but I don't know Everything. I think in order to really Cleanse your Body, it's a Process and sometimes can take YEARS. You might be able to take the Edge off but you'll see.

Don't Be Afraid of Detox, know that this is Your Will at Work, Restoring your Body back the the Beauty it was Born with. In Joy your Journey.

Raw veggies and fruit and pure water will detox your body over time. Only eat natural raw foods. Oh ya, dont go for raw "chocolate" and raw "ice cream", etc as I dont think it actually falls under a REAL RAW FOOD DIET. Go for living foods you can pick from the field or a tree.

Leave the "raw" cakes, pies, ice cream and chocolate for the people that are not TRUELY RAW as truely raw is about healing and cleansing and not a substitute for your fave pizza and sweets.

Good luck

Thanks!

I do have to say that I don't feel as heavy in the middle today after the cleanse the other day coupled with starting the raw diet. I am having trouble with giving up my am coffee, but I am finding that I cannot finish it. Maybe I'm losing the taste for it...?

Juice fasting.... what is this all about and is it neccessary? Benefits? How long? Can I do a few days, resume foods, then get back on juice fast? I don't really agree with one thread I read on here... Asian girl water fasting for 34 days to the point where she couldn't move due to weakness.

I have been mammal-free for 25 years, all organics for our family as best I can, kids on organic milk since babies and grew up on my organic garden and tofo dogs... so I'm no stranger to alot of this. I'm just curious about the juice fasting.... this is new to me.

With juice fasting you will lose more pounds and detox much quicker and you only do pure juice of fruits and veggies all day. I got this on the net:

Juice fasting for health
There are several kinds of fasts, from those for religious reasons that fast until sundown to those who take nothing but water for long periods. If the juice fasting is for health purposes, it makes sense to support your body's needs while you reduce or remove some necessary elements from your diet.

The basic elements that we need to remove from our diet for the sake of our health are cooked food and animal products. This includes the denatured packaged products such as white flour, refined sugar etc. and all animal products such as red meat, poultry, fish and eggs. The only animal product that is usually allowed is a little honey for sweetening purposes. The best single method to accomplish these ends is to juice fast.

In order to do this properly, you will need a juicer which is a machine specifically made for this purpose, It is nor a mixer or a blender. It is not a citrus juicer. it is a device that is made to deliver vegetable juice out of a spout while the fiber is deposited another way.

Juice fasting for weight loss
Some people may enter a juice fast as a way to address some disease condition. Others may use a fast in order to detoxify their body or to lose weight. For whatever reason you may chose to juice fast, one dramatic element is the immediate and dramatic loss of stored body fat. This has multiple health benefits.

Much of the toxins stored in our body are in our body fat. Metabolizing the fat forces the toxins into the blood stream where the body processes them to be eliminated. This elimination is not entirely done through the alimentary canal and the urinary tract. A major organ of elimination is the lungs. We will breathe out some toxins in our breath.

Toxins in the body
Another major organ of elimination is the skin. We will not only exude toxins from the surface of our skin, causing people to bathe frequently every day, but the skin may erupt in boils as the toxins, especially petro-chemicals accumulate in boils.

As we realize the great load of poisons we have carried by the amount of toxins that are being discharged, we can wonder how we survived at all. One lady of my acquaintance was so severely involved by the heavy discharge of chemotherapy chemicals from her skin that she constantly showered. Also, her breath was foul and her mouth had a chronic horrible taste.

This was all accomplished by juice fasting.

On the other hand, I also know a man who was only slightly affected by the discharge of toxins from his body, as he lost a pound a day for 28 days.

It all depends upon what is the challenge to your body to detoxify and how your body, in its own wisdom, 'decides' to lose the stored poisons.

How long to stay on a juice fast
The 'rule of thumb' is to stay on the juice fast until you have been free of detoxification symptoms for two days. These symptoms can be rather severe, making one to believe that 'the cure is worse than the disease.' However, this is certainly not true in the long run.

It is possible, during an extended fast, that a person may have more than healing crisis. You know that you are succeeding when you have a healing crisis. In cases of severe illness, some practitioners provide a juice fasting program for, perhaps, three days a week and the rest of the time the patient eats normally of selected fresh fruits and vegetables.

Meat in the diet
Meats are not a part of a recovering patient's diet, especially during the critical detoxification period. After that, some practitioners allow the patient to have small amounts of animal protein sources such as two ounces of white fish or an egg a week. Other practitioners do not allow their patients to eat any animal products during their recovery or sustaining periods.

The prohibited foods include all animal flesh of any kind, including fish, poultry, eggs and dairy products. The only exception for some is the inclusion of a tablespoon of honey once a day for sweetening.

A strict juice fast is necessary until a good recovery is established. This may take from several days to three weeks or more. Almost always, there is immediate evidence of the success of the fast. The patient will know the next day, the family will know in two or three days and the doctor will see measurable results within a week or so.

Hope it helps

That was very helpful and much clearer than the articles that I have found.

Thanks!

Hi back2healthy,

I am also new to this forum but I will do my best. First, did you expect to lose a noticeable amount of weight by doing one day of a saltwater cleanse and then some raw food/juice? I'm sure you can imagine it doesn't quite work that way. :) Sure, I would say you could consider that a "cleanse" in one sense, and certainly every little bit helps. But I don't think this will mean you are considered totally detoxed by a long shot! People fast for weeks and months and still experience detox symptoms, and even then it's something they have to maintain.

Good luck with your raw food diet! And try a juice fast; it's not as extreme as a water fast and it's actually enjoyable! I agree that a 34-day water fast freaks me out...I think I am too paranoid to do that, and would be convinced I was dying by day 3. But I think water fasts, especially if they are approached with the right mindset and knowledge, can be done well and be effective. I just won't be signing up any day soon. :)

Thanks Papaya!

No, I didn't expect a major weight loss, although I did lose a pound!

I'm thinking of juicing during the day and then a "meal" at night. I haven't had many detox symptoms, per say. I think I started out healthy. I am on week two now and have been so very good. I have lost the taste for pasta, chicken, anything refined. I have more energy and actually sleep the entire night without interupted thoughts, tossing turning etc... My husband says my skin looks great!

What is a typical raw day for you?

I disagree... you can eat raw chocolate, raw ice cream (it's made from raw fruit for goodness sake) and any raw cakes you wish and STILL detox and gain health.

You released a pound of feces my friend... releasing weight takes more than one day of fasting - although you may have released a little fat in there as well. ;)

Fasting is not that hard. It's just getting into the mindset. And fasting for 34 days is nothing really. Some people allow their body to be weak and tired and work through it... it's VERY empowering unlike anything else you will experience. Of course, you can do it more gently with a juice fast.

There's so much info on here... read read read. ;)

But don't knock it till you have tried it.

If you can juice during the day and not overeat at night... that would work lovely for you. But really... I would suggest you do one or the other. Fast or eat raw live foods... both will detox you and bring you to greater health.

If I'm juicing during the day and eating raw at night for dinner, then I am still technically raw... correct?

I'm a very busy mom of 3 very busy kids, so the juicing and/or smoothies is such a great way to whip up something quick and take on the go if I have to. In fact, I just bought this great basket that has two levels on it that I put on the counter next to my juicer. Everything is so accessible and my kids are juicing and making smoothies every day and adding flax oil:) It's a pain to see the juicer not cleaned in the sink, but they are juicing!!
