Hello everyone!
In three weeks I will be going on a long trip (12 hours +) and I need to pack food with me. By that time I will have finished my 15 day water fast and wish to be 100% raw, so what foods should I bring along?
I will most defiantly bring along nuts, but I can't eat nuts the whole day! (too much fat) and I have also considered dried fruit, but as many of you may or may not know, store bought dried fruit is heated well over 200 degrees, and if I were to dry my own, I would still have to heat the oven over 140.
Any other recommendations?
Thanks in advance!

Bars, crackers, granola-either that you make yourself or buy pre-made. Matter of Flax has hummus & crackers snack packs. You just add water to make hummus. There's so many great snacks available, that I would likely bring a bunch with me to keep it simple. Cut-up veggies, seaweed, fruit-apples and bananas travel well. Food powders are good too.

I advise against breaking a fast with nuts. You are supposed to ease your body back into the process of eating again and nut would just be too harsh for those purposes. When you start back eating it should start with soft fruits or smoothies and progressively get to heavier or harder to digest foods.
But with that said I find that when I was not comfortable eating simply, it was hard to travel. Now I travel with an ice chest full of fruit and maybe a few dehydrated snacks (crackers, desserts, chips, what ever). And if I just absolutely need something else then I may stop and get Guacamole or sushi since it is not hard to find a Mexican or Japanese restaurant on the road; and if you brought crackers or sliced cukes or celery then you will have something to eat the guacamole with. You could also make some guacamole before you leave and place it in the ice chest. You could also make a raw meal the night before and use your back window to keep it warm until you are ready for it. You have a lot of options you just have to think outside the box a little.

why not just apples, celery, cherries, bananas, oranges, red peppers, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, peaches, nectarines, oranges, baby carrots . . .

good point Rufassa! I missed the breaking the fast angle....
If you are breaking a fast - you should only be doing fruits for a day or so, or green smoothies....
I would start out with something like 4 oz of apple or orange juice, and build from there to larger quantities of juice, then into the smoothies, then to fruits, then salads.
That should happen over a 2-3 day period, imho.

You shouldn't break a 15 day water fast with anything more than fruit juice for a couple of days, followed by green salads or green smoothie for a few more days. If you are going by car, why not bring along bottles of juice in your cooler?

I would say work fruits in between the juice and salads but I other wise agree. A 15 day water fast should not be exited immediately. Take some days to adjust. Maybe you can do a juice day, or two, before you leave and just take soft fruits to eat on the road. Eat any kind of fruit once you arrive at your destination and soon you should be ready for salads and then normal foods. But you should definitely NOT be munching on nuts right after a water fast.
I also don’t recommend trying to travel with juices because you want freshly made juices during a fast. If you pack them up they will begin to oxidize and lose value.

I'm also looking at a 12+ hour car trip with my sister and her three teenagers (oh, joy...), so this thread is very interesting to me. We'll be staying at a hotel with a fridge once we get to our family reunion, so I can store stuff on site.
I'm planning to bring my blender along so I can make some green smoothies (probably the chocolate kind), and I've been making all sorts of raw crackers and other road-food munchies in the dehydrator. I'm also bringing along a small, self-contained shredder in case I want something more substantial like zuch pasta.
I'm sure the kids will want to stop and eat their usual fast food, so I'm figuring on double salads. I am bringing some nuts and dried fruit trail mixes (I make my own), but I don't like to eat too much of that as it messes with my blood sugar issues.
Besides that, the usual assortment of fruits--bananas, apples, oranges, pears, peaches--whatever is on sale when we leave. I will only have a small 6-pack sized cooler with me as I have to leave room for everyone else's suitcases.

Thank you everyone!
I think I have expressed myself in the wrong way... we are leaving 2 weeks after me finishing my 15 day water fast! By then I would have already broken the fast the way it's meant to be done (with fruits and veggies as stated- I plan to go on fruit juice/shakes for 3 days then start incorporating raw fruit, after which comes the veggie juice and raw veggies! By the end of those 2 weeks I think I should be able to start with nuts) so I am sorry for the misunderstanding!
But other than that I got some great advice, so thank you everybody! I will not be able to bring a cooler with me, and Rufassa, you bring up a good point about juices! I think a few bars/ crackers and nuts should do the trick... then when I get to my hotel I'll load up on fruit.
Diana.

I sure hope the Teens have their on self contained Music, ipod etc. I know I would not leave without Mine. I'm already Praying for you.:)

Oh - sounds good!
Then get a cooler if you don't have one - and stock whatever it is you usually like to eat. A cooler will keep everything fresh for 12 hours....well - get a decent one!
I bought a large one for camping last year - guaranteed for 48 hours I think - maybe 72......
