Let me recommend hazelnut bushes. My dear father-in-law planted a couple of bushes next to his house, and they grew to be almost 20 feet high. Tons of yummy nuts if you could beat the squirrels to them. One of the quicker nuts to grow.

you can order trees from here at various ages.. so if you can afford it, you won't have to worry about when they start producing. :)
