Does a person need to eat raw for a week, or fruits or whatever to "prepare" their body for a fast? Or if you are just sick and tired of being sick and tired and want to be through with SAD and back into raw, can you just start your juice fast and get the ball rolling?

yeah, for my first fast I jumped right in from a SAD diet. I think - no, I KNOW - that breaking the fast is what really matters. Also, personally, I had a really hard time eating a raw diet, but after the first fast my body wanted nothing but raw foods. So, I think its a great way to get started!

I'm almost ready to fast. Working out some employment kinks before starting. Thanks for your response Butterfly.

Well, it depends. When I started my juice fast, I felt headache coming at night. At that point I had a choice - to continue fasting and be ready to take painkillers(my headaches are much worse than my lobor pain was) eat something that would slow down the detox. So I ate a salad. It worked- headache backed off. The very next day I started my juice fast again and went all 10 days without any headache or any bad detox.
Just listen to your body and your intuition.

I love this thread because I was thinking about fasting before being 100% fruitarian. I want to juice fast for a few days, then tea fast, then water fast and then dry fast then reverse the process in order to continue my diet by being fruitarian.

I was wonder if I had to prepare for a fast. I will start fasting tomorrow and tonight have my last meal of tomatos, onions, 2 avocados and then afterwards drink some digestive tea to start the eliminations in the morning, because I have read that food in your colon is what creates the detoxing symptoms when fasting.

you don't have to prepare to fast... you can simply begin.

your body will eliminate the feces in your body during your fast but some people like to get colonics or do enemas to assist this process.

and just so you know, this is NOT a fruitarian forum so we cannot support you in this. we can however assist you with being raw. ;)

I know this is not a fruitarian forum. I was just saying that I wanted to fast before I try to be fruitarian. It seems like people fast before switching from being a meat eater to a vegetarian.

I don't know...fasting is always used to transition from one diet to another by people.

Oh, I won't do a colonic or enema. I heard that it only makes the feces go up higher into you upper intestines? So I will just drink digestive teas with fennel to help eliminate.

No, it's not. Your information is inaccurate. There are many here who went from SAD/SAC/Vegetarian straight to raw without fasting.

Inaccurate information again.

This is ONLY my experience. A couple of years ago, I tried to water fast after reading Joel Fuhrman MD's book about it. I was eating "healthy" SAD at the time. Before the day was out I had an excrutiating migraine, was dizzy and nauseated, low blood sugar, etc.....had to quit.

A month or so ago, I decided to water fast for one day. Had been raw for nearly three months. Well one day turned into three followed by five days of green smoothies. I had no problems whatsoever, and during the water portion I even laid a tile floor in my daughter's bedroom. I think being raw for awhile made a huge difference FOR ME.

YMMV. :D

I certainly dont have much experiance fasting, but im currently on my day 2 of my 2 day water fast, and i jumped into it from a cooked diet. Doing the fast has helped me with bad eating habits and has re enforced my yearning to go 100% raw afterwards.

Ive only had a couple of bad headaches and low blood sugar so far, i thought id be worse coming straight from SAD, but apparently not.
Id say go for it. If you need to slow down the detox process then perhaps add a couple of juices, otherwise happy fasting!

I was wondering, I am on day two of juice fasting. Would it be considered cheating if I consume a table spoon of olive oil a day? I wanted to add more caloric/nutritional intake and call me crazy on this one, I just have this idea that consuming olive oil help cleanse out my digestive system somehow just like people consume castor oil to help cleanse them out?

i usually take in a little oil while fasting... esp during an extended fast. i usually use hemp or flax oil though.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if consuming oil would interfere with the body's healing process or not. I have read that juicing is better because there is no pulp for the body to digest, because juice is basically water enriched nutrients. Since oil is a different substance, I thought it may be almost like digesting food with pulp.
