I was pretty high raw for the last week. I didn't think I looked that great.

Last night I ate cooked food.

Today I went to a birthday party. I just looked very fresh for some reason. Today I had a couple of pieces of fruit in the morning and a Lara Bar for lunch. A 28 year old guy asked me how old I was. I said 37. He couldn't believe it. He really thought I was joking around with him. He thought I was 24 and couldn't believe I wasn't a model. I told him about raw food. He didn't really get it. Then I ate some chocolate birthday cake which I felt I couldn't get out of eating. Somebody else thought I was my 22 year old sister who is overseas.

I know David Wolfe talked about the true and false body. It is like I have two different faces. It is like the spirit shines through when I eat raw. But then sometimes I can look bad on raw and good on cooked. I don't get it. I know I should be raw all the time, but the social thing is hard for me.

I've been raw for a while then gone out to dinner with my boyfriend. Just say we are in an Asian restaurant where I can't get a salad. So I decide to eat cooked. Then I say to him...watch me age ten years before your eyes.

If only I can work out what to eat to keep my true face all the time. Sometimes during detox all of the toxins circulating in my blood give me a fuzzy energy. I know it would be easier if I went 100% raw, but even 100% raw foodists don't necessarily glow if they aren't balanced.

There can be many reasons for the shifting of your “face”. What should be kept in mind in my opinion is that while diet is important, and while I believe in the vegan ethic and, in general, the benefit of eating raw, a raw food diet is not the be all and end all and not everything that happens to you is based on your diet. There are many other factors that affect your being (including what you refer to as your face), such as your emotions (which can be affected by your diet, but there’s a whole lot more to it than diet) and spiritual disposition. A simple, beautiful idea (or truth, if you will), if realized, can instantly change your whole being, and can be much more powerful than any nutritional regime.

I would just try not to hang all of your coats on one hook (i.e., a raw food diet) in trying understand yourself (including your face). It’s important, yeah, but not everything.

I know I should be raw all the time,...

May be. May be not.

yeah at times i have a certain (what I call) symmetry of consciousness...when everything is aligned.

i do think you can sometimes look and feel worse on raw as the toxins rise to the surface...

what i probably did was slow down the detox by eating some cooked stuff...

emotionally i wasn't the best because i really needed to be studying for an exam and felt obliged to attend this birthday...went to buy a present at the last minute...the parking ticket machine took more money than it should have and didn't give me a ticket to get out...so my car was trapped and i had to find someone to help get me out...then i got lost driving to this party...then i couldn't remember the address so had to ring someone...so i was in an annoyed, not particularly benign state when i arrived...

anyway...who cares i guess...back to raw today...

i'm beginning to crave raw more than cooked now. juicy oranges. yum.

that's likely why all those obstacles happened to you because you felt also obligated to study etc. your energy attracted how you were feeling. my opnion.

i think there is definitely something to what you wrote in the first post

i was recently at a 10 day meditation retreat and was really able to have simple raw food

the first few days i was eating oranges/apples/flax for breakfast
carrots/beets/greens for lunch
no dinner

i started glowing in the raw way i know and recognize....just striking really

then i added bananas and raisins in the morning for extra calories and simplicity....after that many days of meditation even peeling an orange can be a big task

anyway i noticed the glow fade with those heavier/denser foods

pretty interesting

reading this thread though i recognize it is true that it may have been a result of the shift in inner work........

but i think i was feeling great with the light and juicy

I have experienced the same thing you describe about looking bad on raw. "The alternating faces of detoxification." Wolfe's chapter titled 'Detoxification' in "Sunfood Diet" is one of my favorites. I've read it so many times I should have it memorized. I don't buy into the cleansing therapies (flushes) he describes in this chapter, but his descriptions of the detoxification process that occurs during the first three (at least) years on a raw diet is very enlightening. Detox travels in waves and circles, healing happens from the inside out as our old personas are being pushed out.

Then there is his electro-magnetic theory, too.... cooked food residues (or eating heavy raw) act as blockages in the electro-magnetic circuitry of the body.

"When one radiates health and vitality, one no longer draws on the vilality of other humans, animals and plants. This is due to one's increased energy which diffuses from areas of greater concentration to areas of lesser concentration. As energy diffuses, it also creates a magnetism which manifests itsalf, in the form of charisma. A clean body is charismatic." David Wolfe
