I'm usually not this sensational but
Michal Jackson dying today is a bit ovewhelming.
He was my first concert. My mother and her coworks stodo outside all day so there families could get tickets to see him. A multigenerational ICON.
Can we post our fondest song and concert memories?
THANKS

Me too. :( When I was younger and into meeting celebs, I was very determined to me him someday-lol. I had the coolest Michael shirt that I never saw anyone else wear with a glitter glove & it was a crop top. Definitely a favorite. Never got to a concert.

because I loved the song BEN, even though it was about a rat
because HIS was the first concert I ever attended, thank you mama for the tickets

because I too had a BLACK LEATHER JACKET, thank you WIlson's for making me feel cool
because my highschool pep club performed to yourMUSIC freshman year
because BILLY JEAN was the first song about baby mama drama & you made it sound cool
because when I blow dry my hair it look like your AFRO on the OFF THE WALL cover
because the garge scene in BEAT IT gave you street cred
becasue ROCK WITH YOU is the fast love song there ever was
because WANNA BE STARTIN SOMETHING is full of words with no know language of origin
because wether you're BLACK OR WHITE music makes us 1 for a minute
because when you and PAUL sang THE GIRL IS MINE i was just 12
because just last week I was watching that cheesy REMEBER THE TIME VIDEO and loving it
because somewhere in my garage I have the OFF THE WALL album
because HEAL THE WORLD is really a beautiful concept and mission
because when he made SCREAM with JANET I too didn't want to believe the allegations
because even all these years later I still remember the words to SHE'S OUT OF MY LIFE
because even though you're gone i'll still EASE ON DOWN THE ROAD
because no matter what they SAY SAY SAY
until we start with THE MAN IN THE MIRROR

When he came on the scene and started that new way of dancing, I was mesmerized. I still am, always will be. He was the best.

Gotta admit...my first concert was the Victory Tour. Awesome show. Was a big fan at the time of Thriller. I just heard that he died from a neighbor down the street. Had no idea.

I was hoping that someone would mention MJ and his iconic stature. LifeAgift _ your name is so true. I had my students perform to Ease on Down the Road in a talent show this year. My boys were the scarecrow, tin man, and the lion. My girls were all Dorothy. I showed them the video of EODTR and of course I had to convince them that it was Michael. I am so happy that I did this b/c it was a success and it taught them something about someone that transcends generations. I love everything that Michael musically touched, created, and produced. Thanks.

Just the song Thriller could scare me out of my skin when it first came out, we couldn't get videos where I lived back then so I didn't see that until much later... I still love all his music, I was looking forward to his come back this summer.
I remember my girlfriend growing up was determined to marry him, we lived in very rural northern maine..lol... she wore that one glittered glove everywhere :)
He made a HUGE impact on our music today, he will be missed.... thankful for all the wonderful music (that actually has a beat) and the lyrical messages he left

He did not experience "childhood" and there are rumors that there was child abuse in terms of stage parenting...pushing too far from his dad. if you are up on the Jacksons and listen to Janet Jackson's first megastar making album...CONTROL she's pretty open and clear about that. I think he was truly a musical genius and misunderstood soul. He left us with the gift of his time here on earth though...for that I'm grateful. I can imagine he would've been a great ambassador for the United States as he got older....talk about being able to bring people around the world together....in love and joy. He spirit is brilliant and is still shining.

Yes, it is so true. What a blessed gift! I grew up with the Jackson 5 and I will be blunt. They broke a lot of racial barriers in music at the time (being on TV and everything) and provided little black girls with some bad ass crushes okay? LOL. You could not go into a black girl's room (or perhaps any girl's room) without seeing massive amounts of Jermaine and Michael plastered on their walls. At least in my neighborhood and in my room. There were The Osmonds and The Jackson 5. We had Donny and Michael. haaaaha!
The announcement of his death was so surreal, but I am also coming to terms with it. The feelings run deep and are hard to express unless you were "there" and I think we are totally on the same page with that LifeAgift. ;)
My favorites are all of his songs on his first solo album...Off the Wall. The best in my opinion. Fresh, ingenius collaboration with Quincy Jones....just good, good sooooulllll music before the pop influence. I wasn't really into Thriller ironically, but I did enjoy listening to it.
Much peace and thanks for starting this thread.
RIP Michael & Farrah.

Just reading more about MJ this morning and I probably shouldn't bring this up now....but in the article listed below it speaks about his dependence on pain medication and how he viewed one drug in particular as his "health tonic" and one that he required...loosely translated 'to get up in the morning'. I cannot help but wonder...you know...what a truly holistic regimine and focus on consuming more healthy foods (assuming he wasn't) would have done for him. I would've also experienced chronic pain in my leg for life (told by doctors) had I not ditched the drugs and started meditating, eating raw foods and using alternative medicine to heal. You have to take your health into your own hands as we all know here on this board. Your health is the most valuable commodity on earth and you cannot trade that on wall street. For real.
Also we may be forgetting he has three children; aged 12, 11 and 7. No doubt they are experiencing the most devastation as this is their father. Bless them all.

Yeah, I just read it earlier on CureZone. It's a real pity, because Billy Mays did a lot to bring new inventors into the marketplace.
LOL @ the gay community idolizing him. That's kind of funny. I didn't know about any of this "bear" stuff until you just explained it.

Thank you for this thread!
I was SO sad to hear about Michael.......in fact, i couldn't stop crying :-/
I did suddenly realise that he was like my brother: my childhood was VERY similar to his and I LOVED his music.
I love this one too:

I really don't have a fav. When I hear one, I get a memory. I remember being in 1st grade at the lunch table singing the Jackson 5. Anyone remember the cartoon of the group, the girl chasing them, flying all over the world in the flashy contumes? I'm surprised they're not running those.

Nice to be able to come to this thread and not be ridiculed for having MJ's death affect me so strongly. He DID break racial barriers. He had a strong social conscience and was willing and able to do many good things. So much of what he tried to do was attacked. And I simply don't believe the accusations against him.
Michael always broke my heart. If celebrities could only say all the horrendous things that have been done to them just because they are celebrities - we will never know.
I have read articles about Michael eating vegetarian and raw so I am sure that he knew about it but Lloyds of London will not insure that style of eating or alternate healing so to do the shows he was married to MSMedical else the insurance and funding would not have become available. There was a wonderful article on the Examiner.com about Michael and magnesium deficiency, which is often medicated since docs have no reliable way to determine mag deficiency as well as no standard protocol to address it so they misconstrue the symptoms and make wrong diagnosis. It was one of the first articles directly after his death and I suppose that some powerful people did not care for the truth of it as it was pulled shortly after
publishing. Should have printed it out - it was that good.
Interestingly, (to me at any rate) I had the radio on the day he died and there were alternate reports coming out - he was dead - he was not dead - he was on his way to the hospital . . . and so I started praying for him. I know that Michael is in Gods will because when I prayed for him I got that Holy Spirit tingle that is not so common - just tingling all over.

Michael was a very gifted person yet a very tortured soul. He had so much love to give through his music yet he had a struggle to put it out there without having himself, his personal self torn to threads by the media.
He appeared to have a tremendous inner struggle and not much peace. One thing shown clear for all to see and none can deny. He had the greatest of these and that was love.
I see his purity and childlike nature in his love for the children. He led an unreal life as a child and somehow wanted to perhaps live vicariously through children he could gift to and see the joy in their faces. He wanted perhaps to re-live a childhood he never had by creating Neverland and spreading happiness to as many as he could.
His generosity of money out to charities etc was unparrelled in the fame world. It is not a crime to have alot of money. To me , it s a crime to not share it with less fortunate ones or ones n dire need. He did that.
His eternal future is in Gods hands yes. It is all up to Him because He saw it all, knew Michael deep within for who he was, not for what they said he was. Thankfully it was never any man of womans judging that mattered and certainly not the media.
It is always a very sad thing when an unnecessary death occurs. How very sad.
Oh and as for his children. Perhaps they can live a more normal life now and hopefully it will be with, as Michael wanted, his beloved mother. I cannot even fathom what the depth of pain they must be feeling.
