I was talking about the coconut oil I bought in bulk in the "Other" section and have decided to start consuming it by the spoonful since Monday. I'm actually getting a tablespoonful right now before I go back to bed. It has a very neutral taste, almost makes me wish it tasted more like coconut.

I'm not usually into consuming free oils left and right but read so much about how people were eating it freely that I figured I'd give it a shot.

Anybody out there experience any benefits they can directly attribute to eating a spoonful or two of coconut oil every day?

Guess few people out there use coconut oil that way...

There was an 'eat a teaspoon of coconut oil morning and night' movement for awhile there on this board, and a lot of people were reporting all kinds of improvements, mainly softer skin/nice glow I think.

I did it for awhile ...but I'm just not that good with routines. I'm working on it though...I would like to try it again just to see if anything happens.

Let us know what you experience!

I don't but some i know does that, apparently it is known to help to lose weight. My husband use to do that and still does occasionally but he now eats the fresh baby coconut instead.

I use it to make desert/recipes asking for it, or simply for my skin when need it.

I prefer eating the whole coconut too or just drinking the water.

If it feels good too you, why stop.

Enjoy!

I had been taking a tablespoon a day for my thyroid, but I quit because I just got out of the habit. I didn't notice that it made me feel any different anyway. It didn't make me feel bad, but it didn't make me feel great either. I like it for my skin, though. I wish it tasted more coconutty, too. I'd rather eat a young coconut everyday, but at $3.00 ea. that's not gonna happen.

coconut oil is a miracle food for sure.

I only eat a teaspoon or so once in awhile in a smoothie, as I haven't gotten into the raw desserts that require it(still a little afraid to do raw desserts as they would be so high in calories it seems, as yummy as they look - LOL!). I use it exclusively for my body skin topically however - it has replaced any lotions for sure. I also use it in my facial shea butter-coconut oil combo and it's great!

I don't take it regularly so I can't chime in on that BUT I did find a coconut oil that tastes like coconut, it is from Jungle Products, it's organic, extra virgin cold pressed and non-gmo... I found it at our local Co-op Market....

I do when I remember. Or I put it in smoothies.

I feel coconut oil is a fantastic way to improve your skin, hair and general health.

Over the past two years I have fairly regularly taken raw coconut oil together with soaked flax seeds - usually not more than 1 to 2 tablespoons a day. I include them in savoury smoothies (blending the flax seed first to really bust them up). The principal reason I take the coconut oil is for its reputed ability to enhance the utilization of the Omega 3 fatty acids in the flax.

Due, however, to the many tweaks and changes I have made to my diet and lifestyle over this period it is impossible to trace any particular beneficial results to the coconut oil. But, since what I am doing seems to be generally working (always room for improvement though), and because coconut oil in moderation is reported to have numerous benefits, I will to continue to use it.

I am not into its taste, so I mostly use it on my Cahmpion juicer....

I love it! I sometimes add raw honey to it and mix for a sweet desert. Great to lick off the spoon. I used to add it to an oatbran cake I make (basically its oat bran with less water than normal) - but that is definately not raw, lol.

I got a jar of Artisana coconut butter (has flesh and oil blended together), and that I do eat by the spoonful! :p

My regular coconut oil (organic cold pressed, bought by the gallon bucket through Mountain Rose Herbs) I occasionally will take a spoonful, but generally just use in place of other oils (though a little lavishly) in recipes, and to smoosh all over my skin when I've been in the sun.

Beware the amazing powers of coconut oil! ;)

I took a nice-sized spoonful of coconut oil straight a few months ago. The taste is wonderful, and it is very easy to take by itself. An hour or so later, I was violently ill. A few days later, not realizing the problem, I did it again - same reaction. My fiancee at the time (now my husband) was concerned that there was something wrong with the oil that made me sick (and something wrong with me for taking it straight), but I insisted that I had purchased the oil recently at a local co-op, and it was a good brand.

Turns out that coconut oil is a pretty good natural emetic, as I found out online. There was nothing wrong with the oil, it's great for you - but if you take too much, too quick, you throw up. Not pleasant, but good to know - if you are new to coconut oil, don't take a lot at once, or make sure to take it with other foods. I put it in my smoothies now, and haven't had a problem since. I have a stomach of steel, so this was a real surprise!!
