Is there anything that covers up the nasty fishy taste of flax? Or is there something that can be used in place of it? I just can't take the taste of even a little bit of flax yuck!
For my tastebuds, I find the golden flax a bit milder. May be just me though...
I hear you about the flavor of flax, it took me some getting used to. Don't give up on it forever though. If you're going to cut it out right now - try it again in a couple months as our tastes really do change for the better eating this way. *Ü*

I agree. I put golden flax in my green smoothies and I don't even taste it.

Wink! I think it's that our taste buds are all different. To me - flax oil tastes real similar to cod liver oil, very fishy. And I would buy the freshly pressed Barlean's brand which our holistic MD had flown in just days after pressing and kept it frozen - so it wasn't rancid or anything... But to my best friend? She loves flax oil and will eat it straight on her cottage cheese (urp!!)
I see recipes that use flax oil like one would use olive oil - I haven't gotten to that point yet. I know I'm talking about the oil and not the seed, but I had a hard time getting used to brown flax, it took me a while.
When I was eating low carb, I tried and tried and I could barely get down a flax pizza crust recipe, my husband couldn't eat it at all. Now he loves flax crackers :D.

I add ground organic flax seeds to just about everything I eat. Put it in smoothies and sprinkle it on salads, etc. I haven't noticed a "taste" just a texture which I don't mind.
I am just new at the raw foods though so I expect my taste buds have not become sensitive yet. I expect the oil would be much more concentrated in flavor.

ApB1172,
Do you mean flax oil or flax seeds?
If you can tolerate flax seeds, then why even bother with the flax oil if you don't like it? Or do you not like either? What about chia?

Sorry your tasting a fishy taste. I definately don't taste anything fishy with my ground flax seeds that I grind. I like the dark flax and use them all the time. I put them in smoothies all the time. I like them in breads too.

Yeah, there's no reason to use the oil. The seeds taste better and are probably better for you.

I prefer the golden flax ,but both taste nutty to me not fishy. Could it be rancid?

Chia is a good substitute (has many similar benefits) I would cut flax out for now . . . no need to force yourself to eat anything . . . your taste buds will change automatically to crave what you truly require!

I meant the seeds. I made some corn chips with fresh corn and ground flax and even in the dehydrator, my house smelled like a fish tank! Yuk!!! That's good to know because I can truly get down with some chia seeds! LOL I have been wanting to make onion bread, but not willing to risk that flax nastiness or the money!
