I was wondering people's opinion on the effects of water fasting on metabolism. I am planning on doing a 10 day water fast, but do not want to do anything to injure my body...I want to help it. I had to be on a round of antibiotics and feel a detox period will be beneficial. If I water fast for 10 days, will I be alright?? Does anyone have any advice as how to taper calories upward after a fast...how long to drink juices, etc. I know everyone's body is different, but...any general rules of thumb?? Thank you!!

I guess I am just wanting a go ahead to say that it's ok to water fast for 10 days and that I won't end injuring my body. I get worried when I see things about crash diets resulting in a regain of a disproportionate about of fat. But I just want to water fast and then continue back to my high raw way of eating. I think that after I do this though, I will juice fast from here on out, because it seems to have much more stable and enduring health benefits. What do you all think??

10 days on Water should be fine and also is not a long period. You can do Juice for a day, the next day you can add a Smoothie, then Fruit and you are ready to continue with RAW.

I did a 10-day water only fast last year. It was extremely beneficial in terms of cleansing and weight loss, with IMPROVED metabolism and digestion.
I lost a total of 6kg (13.2lbs), of which 3kg (6.6lbs) were water weight which came back within the first week of resuming eating (all simple raw). The other 3kg (6.6lbs) were easily kept off with (increasing) intake of raw food.
I say increasing because, if you take it easy on breaking the fast by holding in the reins, your natural appetite is much less than when you embark on the fast and very easily acts as your guide. If you listen to it, you'll eat more when you feel you're able to as the weeks after the fast progress, thereby naturally enhancing your metabolism.
Also, your capacity for exercise sky rockets after the fast (especially if you were in relatively good health to begin with), and this always helps with gently upping the metabolism too.
However, rest is crucial to success. The ability to nap when I needed to was a saving grace for me, as energy levels fluctuated vastly.
Seven months later, and all the benefits of the fast are still with me, even thought I am now high raw and not 100% anymore.
Don't be scared. Water fasting, especially 3 - 10 days, is an extremely rewarding experience, provided you approach it correctly.

i fasted a lot last year. my metabolism wasn't affected at all - i can say that cause i didn't gain any weight afterwards.
i must say i giggle when i hear people asking if a 10 day fast will harm them... it'll only bring good things to you... all good. what's more important than the fast though is how you break it. when you do a water fast... break it soooooooooooooooooooooooo slowly. sooooo slowly. your body is sleeping... it needs to awakened very gently.
start with watered down fruit/veggie juices
then go to full strength
then to soft fruits
add in green smoothies watered down at first then full strength
above ALL else, listen to your body. if you add in something and you don't feel well... slow down your breaking.

My metabolism doesn't decrease while fasting either. I think that is a myth.
