I had a super day yesterday!! I feel so energized and "psyched" about getting back on track! Vegggeeemom (who just happens to be my best friend  ) shared some recipies with me that she had made and ummmmmmmmmmmmm.... I am in heaven! :p

I got up yesterday morning and had some raw oatmeal with some homemade almond milk and cinnamon. That was good, but I was not too hungry, so I really did not eat too much of that.

THEN... I went to the store..............................I made the mock salmon pate. OH goodness, that was heavenly. I enjoyed that so much on some celery sticks. THEN... I decided to make the cheesecake recipie that she gave me. That was the next best thing to heaven! I felt like I was being soooo "bad". (giggle)

The ONLY cooked food I had was last night for dinner. I toasted an Ezekial bread hamburger bun and spread some of the mock salmon pate on it. My dh even said that it was pretty good! I put the mock salmon pate in the dehydrator at 125 degrees for a few minutes to take the chill off (I had put it in the fridge), and so it was just barely warmish.

My dh did not like the cheesecake  , but the only reason why is that he does not like the lemon flavor or the tartness (any ideas???), but I think that he would totally eat it if I could make it more vanilla flavored or something. I loved it though. My ds tasted it and was not expecting a lemony flavor, so he was too unsure of it and then when dh did not care for it that totally influenced him.

Had another success this morning with the homemade almond milk. My dh said that he too preferred it over anything I had been using! YIPPIE!!!! :D

Okay, just had to get on here and share and rejoice and all that good stuff!

I have to get some green veggies in my house, but I spent more than I should have trying to get stuff for some recipies... oops!

Thanks everyone for sharing and listening!

Put in OJ instead of the lemon.

Hi Teri,

I know there are tons of recipes out there for almond milk, but I'm lazy! How did you make yours? I made some yesterday morning, stored it in the fridge and it tasted awful last night. So, I'm looking for success like yours!

I love posts titled Great Day! Makes me smile and enjoy my blessings too.

OH goodness. I love making almond milk and its SOOO easy. Sometimes I will do sesame milk for extra calcium or just when I crave a different flavor.

Anyway.. I soak my almonds at least 6 hrs. Then take about 1-1/2 cups of almonds and 3 c water (I rarely measure, but that is pretty accurate). Put them in the blender with a pinch of celtic salt and a dash of either honey or agave. Blend blend blend blend. Then I pour it through a, clean of course, panty hose leg. Squeeze out the excess milk from this "bag". I do not reuse my pulp, so I throw it out and rinse out the hose and then normally will strain one more time. It literally takes 5-10 minutes TOPS.... and WELL worth it!

Thanks so much for sharing, because I knew if I went off looking for recipes/ideas I would end up on ANOTHER "rabbit trail" and be distracted from all the stuff I need to do. I easily get caught up reading one thing and then another on these boards...

I didn't soak my almonds yesterday, maybe that's why it didn't work out right.

I'll let you know how I go making some more.

Bless you bunches,
Bretta

Hey there Rawadventures....

Did you know that left over almond pulp makes an incredible skin scrub in the shower? The gentle roughness of the pulp helps to exfoliate the skin but then leaves some of the almond oil on as well. Most excellent. You have to refrigerate the pulp when you're not using it but definitely worth the trouble.

Thanks for that great tip CJB, now I know what to do with my bad batch of almond milk.

I refrigerate it, but only make enough that I will use it within 2-3 days. I also invested (well, my dh did) in one of those machines that takes all of the air out of packaging (oh yeah, called Foodsaver). I bought a few containers, so I actually store my almond milk with NO excess air in it so that it will not spoil as quick.
