View Full Version : Juicing a lot all at once
I want to juice, but I'll be honest - it's enough of a hassle for me that I find myself not juicing as often as I'd like to (daily).
Within the past week I've heard about those who juice a lot, then store in the fridge for a few days.
I haven't done this, but I want to give it a shot. I figure any loss in nutrition is better than not juicing at all.
How much do you find you can juice ahead of time - a couple quarts, a gallon, or...?
I play to use our Food Saver and vacuum seal the quart jars to store. Thanks for any input! *Ü*

Do what I do. Set aside a half hour in the Morning(wake up a half hour earlier if need be) and commit to it. For me it's like brushing my teeth or taking a shower. It's become part of my morning routine that I can't live without.

depending on your juicer depends on the quality of the juice but... you could freeze it like i do :)
Hi cc1 ~ Yes, that's what I'd like to do - but I don't. Just being honest. I make my green smoothie in the morning and was trying to juice in the afternoon. It wasn't working out for me which is why I want to try juicing every (I don't know .. ) 3 days or so and storing the excess.
Hi Aleesha ~ I've got a Champion. I didn't think of freezing the juice, but that's what I do with my wheat grass juice. I like the idea of freezing it too.
I go to the farmer's market once a week and I thought it would be great to juice while everything's so nice and fresh... *Ü*

I juice for at least 2 days. I want it ready for me when I want it. I don't want to wait for it to unFreeze. I store it in Plastic Containers called "Lock and Lock" which I get from qvc.com. These containers keep it FRESH. I discover how well they kept things when I stored Carrot Juice in one and it lasted a WEEK. Carrot Juice will Slime up so Fast But it didn't it the Lock and Lock.
Hope you find something that works for you that will keep you on your Juice Fast. I'm on Day 23 and doing Great.

For what i researched, juice doesn't keep as long as a smoothie. I didn't think of freezing and it seems a great idea to save time.
I prefer doing it every day. Juice doen't keep as long as a smoothie in a fridge. A smoothie can go to 3-4 days but not the juice as per Victoria Butenko.
I find what it comes down, is that the effort is worth it. Our body deserves that we give it a brake once in a while and this is at least i feel that i can do for myself.
You will develop a routine. Perhaps if juicing is too overwelming, you can do like me and combine green smoothie with juicing. I find that it makes me develop a healthy habit.
Have fun with your journey!
Thanks spicyfull ~ I like the idea of juicing for a couple days at a time! That's what would work for me I believe. I went ahead and juiced about 3 quarts yesterday and then vacuum sealed them in quart jars with our Food Saver. I've seen the Lock and Lock on qvc - nice to know they work so well!
Hi Raw AM ~ You're right - if I'd just get into a routine with juicing, perhaps I could do it daily. I've tried and it just hasn't worked out as of yet. But there's always tomorrow! *Ü*

If you have a green life or green star juicer you can make enough juice to keep for 3 days. That is the information that the green star people have provided. That is what I do and it works very well.
Blessings, Lee
Thank you Lee ~ That's what I was hoping to hear!
What I did was; when I got home from the Farmer's Market yesterday, I went ahead and juiced. I had a gallon of juice when finished. I portioned it into pint canning jars, Food Saved the canning flats on them (which removes all the air) and popped them into the freezer (thanks Aleesha).
I'll see how that works out for me. I also juiced last week, sealed the jars and kept them in the fridge like you posted about Lee. That worked out so well. It was so nice to grab a juice that was ready to go. *Ü*

mmmmmm be sure to freeze some green apple/parsley/ginger juice. sooooo good.
That sounds so good Aleesha ~ to be honest, I'm tiring of the old "throw everything in the fridge in the juicer" juice... It always ends up tasting like celery - ha.
I have never tried your combo, but I will ~ thanks. Can you give me rough proportions if I use 1 bunch of parsley? *Ü*

I just can't drink the juice that is even a half day old - I usually end up trowing it out, if I make more than I can drink. Also, with Champion, it gets stuck after making 2-3 cups, if you use some greens, then you have to take it apart and wash it anyway, so timewise it is not much of the difference.
I do one thing, that helps me to make juice quicker- I prepare veggies and put them in a large plastic container in the fridge, so I can make juice quickly, when I want to.
Unless I fast, I usually make juice twice a day - once in the morning grapefruit juice on the handjuicer, and veggie juice afternoon - on the "real" juicer.
Hi freelive ~ Thank you for your reply! Yes, I agree - it would be ideal to juice daily, but I just don't, even though I have good intentions! Your idea about having everything ready is a good one.
I wanted to comment though - I juiced 1 gallon 2 days ago and only cleaned it once during that time. I just received my new blade about a week ago. Champion's site recommends getting a new blade every 18-24 months. I didn't have a clue about that - since we've had our Champion for over 20 years and never replaced it before - ha..
One thing I find helps me out is things that are fibrous - like celery, parsley stems, etc. is to cut them into 1-2" lengths. This keeps their long fibers from wrapping around the blade. *Ü*

I also try and juice everyday. But with the kids eating and me being interruped by them what seems like every 5 minutes, it seems like I am in the kitchen juicing all morning. I ususally make two batches. Each batch is usually a liter or some morning I make myself a liter and the kids some oj or whatever we have that they like. I have to drink my juice before half a day is up because it just doesn't taste good to me so I can't imagine me juicing and keeping juice for a combos: the first is spinach/apple and cucumber. The second which is similiar to the one Aleesha posted and that is kale/green apple and a 2 inch piece of a cinnamon stick. Does anyone else add mostly cukes for the abundance of juice and then boost the nutrition value even more by adding other greens and a piece of fruit to sweeten it?

I can vouch for those.. I used them constantly when I lived in South Korea in 2006. I used them to keep kimchi in the fridge (even water radish kimchi!) No leaks! No smell!.. Works very well! I had the clear ones in all shapes & sizes (the clear ones with the blue line). :) They are great for kimchi, by the way. :) I also had glass ones.
The glass versions, I haven't seen anywhere except in Korean markets, so if you have one near you, you should take a quick tour of their cookware & dinnerware isles. The glass ones look something like this: http://www.alibaba.com/product-free/11513501/Tempered_Glass_Airtight_Container.html
or: http://www.alibaba.com/productshowimg/glasslock-11513509-10960971/Glass_Airtight_Container.html
Here's some at bed bath & beyond: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/search/search.aspx?order_num=-1&sstr=snapware&dim=1&nty=1& They're called Glass Lock Snapware.
And here's some if you're shopping online: http://www.snapware.com/maindept.asp?dept_id=12000
These aren't expensive at Korean stores. They have some that are like 1.00 a piece.. The set that I have has 3 containers and costed me like 5 bucks for the set. I got 2 of them.

yea juicing all the time can be a pain in the a** but frozen juice or even juice thats been left in the fridge for too long just isnt the same....
what i usually do is drink the same kind of juice....making more simple reciepes is less stressfull....i'll make a big jug of apple and ginger juice drink that for half of the day then switch to carrot and parsley juice for the rest of the day....
my juicer uses whole fruits so its not that much trouble....its when i mix it up and start adding lots of different fruits/veggies it can get abit taxing...

This thread is timely for me. I have decided that juice only lasts in the fridge about 48 hours. I made a big batch on Saturday and it tasted great then. Yesterday, it was drinkable, but I could telll that it was less vibrant than on Saturday. This morning, it was OK (barely). By 5:00 is was ready to go down the drain. It might have held up better if I had divided it among some 8oz. mason jars. I have heard that extends the life of the juice if you fill them all the way up without an air space.
All I can say is this thread has inspired me to be more diligent on juicing daily. Thanks.:)
