Hey there,
I'm a raw foodist, recently returned after 3 years of being vegan, wheat free. I've been raw for a few months now and a week ago started having stomach pain. I have now had it for just over a week. The Dr I saw said it is probably part of my bowel being in spasm. But for a WEEK? I am going to see another Dr (that one was the emergency one at the weekend) as I am worried at it going on so long.
Has anyone heard of a raw person getting IBS? It doesn't seem fair :( and I am feeling quite fed up. It varies from very painful to mild but is there all the time. I find it hard to tell if it's food related. I did fast on peppermint tea for 24hrs and it was bad that whole day.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I don't know anyone who understands my desire to be raw and natural (not use drugs) for this.
I found this post helpful and am going to try out some of the advice: http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=30360
I guess I am feeling down and in pain and would love some understanding of where i'm at with my values.
Thanks for listening!

What is your typical food intake in a day? Even raw foods can irritate IBS, such as nuts, seeds, some veggies (like broccoli).

Maybe a water fast for a couple of days would be better. There are lots of books on fasting, including free down-loadable ones. Do you eat only organically grown produce? You could have ingested some contaminated produce, and your system is just working on getting it all out. Sometimes these things take a while. Being raw is not a guarantee that we never get sick, it's just our best insurance against disease.

Often many need to cut back on heavier foods and/or food combine once they've been raw for awhile. Occasionally you may to need to eliminate certain foods, though usually just temporary.

Lots of issues first one that comes to mind, your detoxing. Second off make sure your getting a good balance of greens, fats and fruits maybe pump up the greens alittle bit to help your digestive system out out. The other cause might be stress/anxiety/work related, any personal problems latley?

Here's an article on herbs which are used in teas, and it specifically mentions peppermint. http://www.rawfoodexplained.com/why-herbs-should-not-be-used/introduction.html

Maybe you could look at the types of raw foods you are eating and also the herbs as well. Herbs are very powerful, just because they are natural does not neccessarily mean safe to eat in any variety or quantity. If something doesn't taste palatable I often research it first to find out if i should be eating it for any benefits if my body is saying no to it.

So sorry for this discomfort and pain.

Hope you feel well soon, perhaps you should have a pick on the fasting section of this board. I am doing a feast/juicing right now to give a brake to my digestion system and to give a massive dose of anti-oxidant of my body.

Miracles happen and don't give up

You are definitely on the right track and you will figure out what works for you.

Best wishes!

Get well soon. I'd do a water fast and see what happens,-it works wonders. A rawfoodie can sometimes get sick if he doesn't feel good emotionally/mentally. Hope you'll ge better very soon! Take care, Eva
