So after a while of no sprouting, I tried some adzuki beans. I tried eating them raw after they developed a short tail, and they tasted horrible. I keep reading about people saying raw sprouts taste great and this and that, but so far I haven't liked anything I've sprouted (which admittedly is only lentils and beans). Still though, I wonder if I'm doing something wrong - like the sprouts aren't getting enough air and are going bad or something.
I'm doing it with mason jars and the mesh lids, rinsing often so I don't know why they'd be going bad easily. I guess I want to try sprouting other things like alfalfa or maybe some seeds, but I'm not sure where to get them. Sproutpeople.com seems like a cool business and information center but their stuff seems really expensive. Is there an easier way to get this stuff?

if you go down the bulk isle in whole foods, you can get some mung beans pretty cheaply! (i love mung bean sprouts!)
this is what they're supposed to look like:

also.. you can buy broccoli seeds and sprout broccoli... and alfalfa is delish. :)

I actually forgot to mention that I did sprout some mung beans and that was the only thing that wasn't terrible....I don't think I really liked them but I did eat them unlike the adzuki beans which I had to put in the compost bin. But as far as broccoli seeds and alfalfa...where can I get these? I feel like I haven't seen them in the bulk isle at WFM.

I've had the best luck sprouting clover seed.
Clover sprouts are really great...
I have sprouted chickpeas, but those weren't all that great, and we had a bit of 'intestinal distress' from them, so I have not sprouted any more legumes.
Radish sprouts are good, too. So are sunflower sprouts -- I've bought those before.
