hey does anyone know of a website where i can order hard to find fruits from other countries?
i can only imagine the cost... but there are 1,000's of fruits i'd love to try and it's challenging to find any new ones where i live. and i'm having a challenging time getting my local guy just to get me some sapolies in... he said he saw some before, but after weeks still no call.
this basic popular stuff is just really boring for me.

Move to hawaii :)
i'd love to!!!! i had an oppertunity to live there in a house for free... ex roommate has a house there.. but i didn't do it mainly because of my cat. i can't have her locked up in a cage for 3 months first. but i bet it's like heaven there!!! oh.. 10 years ago i was told it cost like 5 bucks for 1 apple!!!

What matters more your health or your cat? I'm sure you can find a good home for it, or they have an express quarantine program I think. Apples aren't $5, it is really weird they're cheaper here then Los Angeles.
keewi... cruel comment..cruel selfish comment. never in a day would i move to a place where my cat can't come. some people ditch their animals.. i'd never do that. and my cat means something to me. i mean your comment sounds like one should give their kid up for adoption if it can cause a stressful situation.
i've never been to hawaii.. i don't know if i'd like it... and that oppertunity was 10 years ago. my intuition said no..flat out clearly and not just for my cats sake.
AnD... one does NOT have to live in hawaii for good health. good health can happen just fine here.
some friends that visited there said the produce was super high there everywhere they went... and 5 bucks for an apple. maybe it's where they went or they were exagerating. but everyone has mentioned it's expensive there and hard to find a job.
truth or not.. i know i won't move there... just would enjoy to visit some day.

http://www.Glaserfarms.com: you'd have to call to place the order because the produce isn't on their website. They will email or fax their current list. They have my all-time favorite fruit, Mamey Sapote.

http://www.honeybell.com: Look under the exotic fruit category
http://www.melissas.com: Extensive selection
May need to narrow it down to specific fruits or countries, even though it's time consuming.

thanks dimond! i checked out the links you shared and see a few things i haven't tried yet.
sapotes are my very favorite fruit as well! i've only tried white ones... i saw pics of black ones before.. i must try it.
hey, how do you ripen yours? i've had little luck when i buy them hard. i've tried keeping them in a bag and also in fridge and out on counter. they seem to rot before it gets rippened. i use to get them straight from the tree when they hit the ground... but they only produce fruit once a year and i no longer live in cali.

The regular sapote (white) and mamey are different. I think I tried the regular one, but I can't remember it. Supposedly the reason why the mamey may not ripen once you have it, is it was picked to soon. When that happens it never softens. But you say you get it straight from the tree, so I don't know. Glaser Farms is the source for all the ones in my areas, but it's rare to find. I think mainly because the stores/farms got tired of dealing with them not ripening and then having to refund the customer. They're so expensive that they better be good! Luckily I now have another favorite which tastes similar, the sapodilla. Also hard to find. I tried the black ones, but I don't know if they were ripe enough because it didn't taste like much. So then there's the mango, which luckily is plentiful around here year round. Those are my top 3 favorites. I do want to try a lot of fruit like you some day.
Don't forget to check out every source in your area too. I came across a lot of local places, but didn't know where you live. Many often have imported fruit or grow some of the more exotic ones.

i've only gotten straight from the tree a number of times. it's when i bought them in the store they didn't soften/rippen. so that makes sence then if it was picked too soon. i wonder why that is since other fruits can be picked early.
i would love to try sapodilla. i'll keep an eye out for it. ;)
i live in southern ohio and jungle jims is about 30+ mins away. the place is gigantic. they don't have much raw going on with stuff like maca etc.. but sometimes they have rare fruits. and there really aren't any asains stores around here. 1 i think closed. i'd have to google.
what i'm looking for mainly are the really bizzare fruits. there are many thousands of fruits on this planet... i want something other than apples and mangos. and i simply can not afford to world tour.
