Is sweetner absolutely necessary in a lemonade cleanse? In others words, does the sweetner (whether it is raw honey, agave, or maple syrup) serve necessary functions in the cleanse other than making the lemonade taste good and giving some immediate energy? Can I greatly reduce the prescribed amount of sweetner?
Thanks for replies in advance.

I've done the MC 3 times and it is necessary to add maple syrup or agave. That will be your form of energy. If you are seeking more weight loss, you can cut back on the amount though. Hope that helps. Good luck!!

Lizbar, thank you for replying.

I understand that sweeteners supply immediate energy. What I want to know is whether reducing/eliminating maple cyrup will reduce the cleansing power of Master Cleanse.

I just looked it up in the book again for you.... It says that you could reduce the amount of maple syrup, but I would caution you against eliminating it entirely. It is there not only for energy, but for all the nutrients (vitamins as well as minerals) it supplies your body. The body needs these nutrients to properly heal.

He does not suggest using honey internally at any time, and cautions against using other forms of sweeteners.
