Almond, very easy to make yourself, with soaked nuts and a blender and just strain it.
I don't use soy products at all anymore, they are toxic raw, still toxic cooked, a GMO and over marketed to the US. Rice doesn't have any nutrients in it and it's cooked, so i don't see a point to consuming it in a milk form.

Can you make a raw soy or rice milk? I have never tried these so I can't answer you question although I do like almond milk :)

Almond milk made from unpasteurized almonds seems to be the healthiest and best tasting choice to me. I do like the taste of soy milk, but I don't drink it anymore because I believe it's bad for you.
Yum - almond milk is so good! Mac nut milk wasn't a choice, but that's my second favorite. :)

I don't use soy or rice milk ~ are you asking about what's in cartons? None of them are raw.
As others have said, nut milks are easy to make and nutritious.

Are "Edamame" Soy Beans bad for you too?
I have not had any in a long time, but my daughter is growing edamame pods in our garden. Would those be fine to eat? They look like green bean pods, then you shell them.
Would I need to dehydrate them? Are these also toxic to eat raw?
Thanks

as much as i've learned about soy i wouldn't even eat organic soy. the stuff all around is just bad. and i feel like visiting every mother who gives their children soy and educate the doctors who tell them to. ~ soy in general even though it's in quite a lot of foods on market... but soy milk nearly makes me jump out of my body.
i posted a link that's very informative not too long ago... that link is on my faves on my other user account. when i switch over i'll post again if interested.

I say do what you want to do. I think there are people who put down soy. Soy is not for everyone. Just like many vegetables and fruits are not for everyone.
Yes, genetically engineered soy is bad. If you are growing your own Edamame then enjoy them. Soy beans has lots of health benefits for women. Asian countries that eat them have less breast and ovarian cancers.
I don't know...I think some people have certain food paranoias. It is on par to people freaking out about carbs. Okay, avoiding processed carbs is one thing, but when you feel that you can't eat a white potato, corn, apple or grapes, because OH, MY GOD...IT'S CARB!
That is when you start getting into trouble. So I say eat your Edamames!
I drink miso soup and I am going to continue to have my miso (fermented soy paste), especially since there are noted health benefits from both Asian and American medical and nutritional journals.

Which do you prefer?
I love almond milk. But I am trying to ween myself from the store bought stuff. I hate it though, I won't lie. My smoothies taste like crap using plain water. And I am in not mood in making my own almond milk Little House On The Prairie style in the kitchen with the whole cheese clothe thing. I am too damn lazy for that.
Oh, I wish I can buy some raw almond milk!
So my second best thing that I have not tried yet, is to take raw butters made at Whole Foods and add them to my smoothies. I hope this taste delicious and just as good as using store bought almond milk in the kitchen with the whole cheese clothe thing.

You know I went to Whole Foods today and I couldn't find Chia seeds...well they were in this packet in the protein powder section, but I read the label and they were not raw.
Where are you people finding these raw Chia seeds?

asians haven't been eating soy (tofu etc) for that long. and asains also eat a lot of white rice. this is known to be bad. it's true that everyones body is different... but why are there so many side effects and warnings with soy and why not with apples and oranges?
soy is very bad for hormones. also it deydrates us.
this isn't the original link i was looking for but has much information how it is unfit for humans and some history of soy in cultures.

I know this is off topic, but maybe you should look up ways to make almond milk...I make mine in the blender in about 1.5 minutes (includes cleanup), no cheesecloth involved :)

Asians have been eating white rice, but not having any issues with it. Maybe because white rice compared to everything they eat is not a big health issue. In America, a totally different story, it is white rice on top of corn syrup, on top of sugar, on top of the on top off.
And I have read books on the Okinawa diet where these things are not much of a health risk. I look into macro-diets...the overall scheme of things of how people eat, plus lifestyle. Not nick-pick on a particular food source...for I think you can say that any food is toxic. And I am sure that statement can be true for a whole lots of foods.
There is nothing wrong with rice in itself. There is a hell lot of wrong with genetically engineered and process white rice that needs to be fortified.
Unless you are eating a buttload of edamame, which I doubt she and her daughter is doing...I think everything is pretty damn okay. I doubt she is growing enough edamame to be eating like a pound a day where possibility of her health is concerned.
Use moderation and common sense? Yes! Avoid something for dear life and never ever eat it? No.
And there is a whole lot of things people haven't eaten long. Doesn't make it bad. Before international agriculture and food trading, about most of our diet today consist of 75% of foods that many ethnic groups haven't eaten long. White folks haven't eat tomatos, corn, sweat potatos nor chocolate long. Blacks haven't eaten wheat, avocados or bing cherries long. Mexicans havent' eaten soy, peanuts, collard greens long. Asians haven't eaten turkey, butter beans, olives and pomegranate long.
We all are eating new food sources brought to us 10 years to 100 years ago due to trading and/or discovering new food sources to eat!

This is by far one of the most ignorant things i've ever read, we all come from the same ancestors. We can all eat the same stuff, some people might have enzymes to help better digest those foods but a balanced raw diet will make that a none issue
about thde soy issue,
Soy's been eaten for thousands of years, actually, but pretty much only in a fermented state. Non-fermented soy is high in phytoestrogens which can definitely mess with hormones in both men and women.
Women's reactions to phytoestrogens range from the benign, e.g. stimulated breast growth, to the malignant, e.g. more troublesome periods and increased incidence of ovarian and breast cancer. As for men, there aren't a lot of studies on the effects of phytoestrogens yet, but early evidence is showing a correlation between decreased sperm count and increased exposure to environmental estrogens.
Basically, unfermented soy is not a suitable food for regular consumption.

As for my own post here about this subject, this is why I haven't consumed soy products for years now.
Six Surprising Facts About Soy
1) Soy is not the cornerstone of Asian diets
2) The soy that westerners eat is unhealthy
3) Soy does not contribute to bone health
4) Soy contributes to infertility
5) Soy is not good for postmenopausal women
6) Soy formula is not a good substitute for breast milk or even milk formulas

I buy my chia seed online, generally, or from our local food co-op.
Online, I usually buy it through Amazon... it is really amazing what you can find there! (usually it originates from The Raw World or someplace like that)
Chia seed is CHEAP, when you compare it to other sources of protein, Omega 3, etc. Runs about 8 or 9 bucks a pound. Maybe a little more, depending on where you get it. Still cheaper than a lot of stuff. A little goes a long way.

we all are humans!!!! just because ones asian doesn't make them a supreme being. we all have something called a digestive system. and rice is unhealthy for the digestve system. it clogs things up, wastes much energy trying to digest it etc.
every asain i know and i know very many... every single one of them has a HUGE giganic bag of white rice in their kitchen. what is it 25 pound bags or something (?). and at home it's inevitable they cook rice for every meal besides breakfast... that i've witnessed.
many of them also go to the bathroom the proper way. this is essential to having a healthy colon. in america our toliets aren't designed to squat.
also they've been using herbs for medicine more often than many other cultures. also meditate and yoga etc is popular. feng shui as well. so this could mean something for them.. but by all means i seriously do not look at asians as role models for a healthy diet.
Unless you are eating a buttload of edamame, which I doubt she and her daughter is doing...I think everything is pretty damn okay. everyones health is different. i for one and many others noticed immediately they get dehydrated from eating and especialy from drinking soy. especialy with children. some people do not realise it. and also with gm soy.. just growing the stuff is litteraly killing people and animals in the area. litteraly. and in one location alone if farmers are caught spraying they get in trouble by the police.
And there is a whole lot of things people haven't eaten long. Doesn't make it bad. oh. so i guess everything is ok then. silly me. yeah... everything is healthy to eat. ok.

Check out this video on why soy is not fit for human consumption.
It is NOT a staple in an asian diet, it was used to add nitrogen to the soil for other crops and eaten in times of FAMINE not as a vegetable or protein source.
1 glass of Soy milk has 5 times the amount of estrogen as ONE BIRTH CONTROL PILL. It is causing many children to develop prematurely and an excess of hormones can lead to breast and ovarian cancers.
That is not something i will be eating or feeding my future children.
