View Full Version : Anyone up for a 30 day juice fast on July 1?

My body REALLY craves a juice fast. I just intuitively feel it, and am really really pumped to get going.

I'm going to start July 1, because I'm going on a cruise June 20-25 (there's like, 0 organic anything on a cruise), and then will be visiting family in Philadelphia through the rest of the month.

I'm going to try do to watermelon for 3 days before the juice fast, and then go into the 30 days. I'm open to doing it for longer if my body deems it, and plan on taking Michael's Paraherbs to aid with detox during that time.

My primary reasons for doing the fast:

Greater spiritual connection
Detox
Weight loss

(Not sure what order those are in)

I'm trying to prepare myself as much as possible before starting. I was thinking of buying Angela Stokes' Juice Feasting book - does anyone have any input on that?

And is anyone else up for starting a fast with me in July? :)

I have just started a green smoothie juice feast/fast. I might take you on that for July 1rst.

No i don't have her book but i can tell you that she looks amazing. I saw her twice. The second time, she looks even younger and more refreshed. I think she has done the fast. I will look for her book.

Best luck on your fast!

I can't do it for the whole month in July, but I'd be up for being around for the start (3-7 days) then cheering you on as you keep it up! :)

I wsh you ALL My Best. Watermelon makes the Best Juice and so does Pineapple. I started one on the first and got tired of juicing so I'm finishing the month out with Water. Its just a way I keep disicipline.

Hi Soaring Eagle,
I am in for that. Maybe not for the full 30 days, but try to keep on track as much as possible. I was going to combine juicing with MC lemonade. I will check back here with you june 30th to get going.

Hello everyone!

This is my very first posting after registering on this site! I would LOVE to join you for a juice fast/feast in July! My body has been telling me that I need to do some major detoxing/healing for quite some time now, but I've been putting it off, always finding an excuse. Anyway, now that I've made the decision, I'm very excited about it and look forward to my healing!

Why I want to join the July juice fast:

Jump start my raw journey
Heal my body of constant fatigue, joint pain, acne, etc., etc.
Clear my mind so as to decide what path in life to take
Gain discipline

I haven't read Angela's juice feasting book yet and was also wondering about it.

I'm planning to prepare for July by breaking out my juicer now and juicing at least once a day. I'm also going to eat more fruit meals and transition away from cooked foods by only incorporating them into one meal a day.

Good luck and blessings to all!

im game! i actually started my juice fast today, but was planning on keeping it up for at least 60 days. (my goal is 92, but ill be happy for any extended period of time).

i prepared myself by having 2/3 meals as juice for the last week. ive also been trying to get in to the cayenne pepper thing with my fast, as that ive read capsaicin has huge healing capacity in terms of improved blood circulation to the brain and dissolving clots... but cayenne is really brutal to me.

but yea, i looooove juice. when i was younger, and my dad would make us drink juice, i hated it. but it definitely grew on me, and now im like, "say what?! i hated this stuff?!"

but anyawys, yea, count me in.

I would love to, but I am a little too afraid to go that long mainly because I have trouble eating sensibly once I break a fast. I had pains in my abdominal area for 3 days after 10 juice day fast. Could have been much worse after 30 day!
You have to start eating with small amounts of fruit - but I just coudn't stop. I wish I could go to some retreat after the fast, where they would just give me a piece of fruit every few hours.
I think for now I will fast one day a week.Good luck to all of you!

I will join, however I would do a water fast for the month of July . I was a juice fast for 8 days, and I wanted to make it to 100 days, but I had to listen to my body and stop. I started eating raw after the fast. Juice fasting is not for me.

Good Luck everyone!!:)

I went from 290 to 273 in those eight days. Whoop Whoop
Since I started eating I am now at 278.

I knew that 5-6 pounds will come back, and sure enough they did.

hey everyone im not quite fasting yet but man i am drinking so much cranberry juice, lol. I found this brand that it just cranberries made into juice its so bitter, you mix it with water and mmm so good. I love the bitterness, haha. Be gone bladder infection, be gone!

Would it be ok to start a fast while I still have the bladder infection? I would drink other juice too cuz this cranberry stuff is still from a jar.

What other kinds of juice would be good for my bladder and help not hinder recovery?

Thanks :)

I knew that 5-6 pounds will come back, and sure enough they did.

Well, I decided not to weigh myself anymore without a very good reason, but at first, I think I gained back a little after my 10 day juice fast (I was eating way more than I usually do), but now a week after, I am about where I was after the fast- one size smaller. So you might still release those 5 pounds again, as your body speeds up metabolism back up now that you are eating.

Great, guys!!! I'm so psyched that so many of you are joining. =)

I got back from the cruise on Thursday and definitely felt like I gained a few pounds. I was going to do a 3 day watermelon fast and then start the juice fast early, but I had conditioned myself to eat too much over the cruise and it was REALLY hard. I decided to be a little more gradual about it - yesterday had watermelon and some other things, then stopped eating at 3pm.

Today I'll stop eating at 2pm, then 12pm, etc - and then go full blast on July 1st. =)

I also ordered an Omega 8005 juicer, which looks AMAZING and half the price of VitaMix.

Also - there used to be an INCREDIBLE thread on this section all about fasting. It used to be a sticky, and I had it bookmarked on my old computer which got stolen later on. It broke down how you'll feel by day "(day 1 you'll have a headache, day 5 you'll alternate between feelings of... type thing). Does anyone remember who wrote that so I can re-bookmark it?

--EDIT: Found it!!! This thread is INCREDIBLE!! : http://rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=12099

Raw Angel Mom - It'll be awesome to have you! And thanks for the info on Angela. =) I'll have to get that book. I did buy 3 others on juicing 3 days ago, too =)

Moretta - Yay, it'll be great to have you!

Eva - !!! =) =) =) You helped me so much when I went raw, I would be honored if you did the fast with us!

spicyfull - Oo, thanks for the tip! I thought those ones would be yummy. =) Pineapple seems a little strong for me at the moment, but I've been eating a TON of watermelon and can't wait to make yummy combinations. I have to grab my juice list (which fruits to mix together) and start combining!! =)

Liz - SWEET! I'll be doing some MC drinks too, probably, because the cayenne gives me such a phenomenal energy boost!!! Yay! =)

LoverOfLife - Awesome name, by the way. =) I think you have phenomenal reasons and I'm so excited to have you join us!! =) Good for you for starting the preparation and I can't wait to do this journey together. =)

Abbyder - Great! An experienced faster on the team!! Very cool. I want to go to 92 days too, but saying 30 as a starting point and we'll see what my body does from there. Cayenne is definitely hard - I take it like a shot a lot, and the benefits are incredible. =)

freelive - They do have retreats like that in Thailand. =) But I hear you - I'm a little nervous about breaking the fast, too. Good for you for knowing your body and thank you for the support!!

yaya718 - Water fast - right on!! I have a feeling I'll go more to water than juice, but we'll see what happens. Congratulations on a *17* pound weight loss in 8 days!! That's nuts!!! How did you eat after the fast? Did you transition slowly back in to eating like you used to?

Firicia - Unfortunately I don't know about what juices would be good for your bladder, but I do know d-mannos has been AMAZING for my bladder infections and I totally recommend it. =) It'll be great to have you!!!!

freelive - Wow, you already lost the weight? That's interesting - I always hear that people gain back a bit. Very cool and inspiring - thank you for sharing. =) =) =)

rawmom2006 - YES!!! So so SO great to have other people on board. Psyched that you'll be part of it!! =)

Can't wait for July, gals!! =)

With love,

Thanks SoaringEagle, I was shocked at the number as well.

After the fast I slowly introduced food, however, my body didn't react to well.(maybe too much info sorry) I was in the bathroom for the first 3 days constantly. After that everything was fine.

Right now I'm at 277.5
My goal is 130. Of course with excercise, raw diet, and more fasting to cleanse my body.

July is almost here. Hope everyone is ready.

Hi soaringeagle and all!

So psyched to see a bunch of you are wanting to fast for July! I've been thinking about a 30-day fast for a few months, because this summer I'm transitioning from a stressful, sedentary lifestyle as a paramedic in rural BC, to being a student in Montreal, and I want to feel and look fabulous!!!

So...I guess July 1 is the big day. I have a wonderful Champion commercial juicer, and I've done one 40-day juice fast and a 21-day and 10-day water fast, which were all great.

Anyway, bottom line: Are people posting their experiences every day or so on here? I'd love to hear how everyone is doing. Sooo glad people are in the same vein--it must be meant to be!

Kimberlee ;-)

I'd love to post experiences everyday.

My transition period isn't working out so well - I've had a lot of non-juice foods, and to be quite honest, I think it'll be pretty hard. I had considered NOT doing the fast, actually, and that's why I stopped transitioning (my boyfriend knows a few health fiends who say I should make sure my body has a lot of fiber first). I'm still back and forth - but leaning towards doing it anyway.

I'm usually not so wishy washy about things - I think it's because the more information I got about juicing (from books, forums, my boyfriend, his friends), the more nervous I became!

Well,

It's good you're being so honest, SE. How are y'all other girls feeling? I can tell you the key is to not quit in the first 3 days, as they're really brutal! Also, because fresh juice is so potent, water it down to 50%. I've never done an enema before, and I live in a really small town, but I hear that helps, too. Tomorrow will be my first day of eating mostly fruits and veggies.

Lemme know how it goes, ok? At least you're not blindly thinking this will be easy!

Hello Fasting Beauties, one more day to go. I have already started my fast today.
I thought to myself "I might as well start the week off, knowing that wednesday is the day."

For me, it would be hard to start in the middle of the week. So just to have all the "excuses" aside I started today.

The funny thing is, I thought it would be eaiser to just jump back on the fasting wagon. It wasn't, I got a taste for it, but getting started is a drag. I know once I get one day down, it will be easy to continue.

Its more of the addiction to chewing, not really the eating part the physical stimulation.

Temptation does NOT exist.

Get ready everyone!!!
July here we come.

I must admit, I do get nervous before a fast, because I know that fasting releases many emotions. But it's cool there'll be a few of us, so we can all vent!

Jennifer, you're really brave doing a water fast! I did 3 weeks on water, and the first 3 days were fabulous, but afterward I could only lie down. I could hardly even sleep. BUT it was totally worth it for the great feeling after! So good luck with that.

Everyone keep me posted, ok? I'm eager to see how y'all are doing.

Count me in. I have been off the board for about 2 years. I have maintained a mostly raw lifestyle but of late I am getting more off track. I know it is because I am alone in this eating style. I need some support so I am back. I gained some winter weight (some muscle, yeah ! after a few years of lower workouts due to building a house, moving, changing Firms I work for ) Now yo get leaner. Goal is to drop 5 pds this month.

I am up for a 30 day juice fast. I did a 11 day in April 09 and an 8 day in May of 08. I do want to lose some more weight but my body fat is good at 9.5%. I weighed 281 pounds a few years ago and about 168 now. I did this with a healthy diet and exercise. I would like to weigh in the low 140's.

Kimberlee, Don’t call me “brave” until I have finished this fast, with the support of you ladies.;)
So your 3-week water fast was physically trying after the first three days? That is interesting. What I read in the fasting literature is that the first few days usually are the most difficult, due to the release of large amount of toxins; afterwards, there will be comfortable days interrupted by days of detox crisis. Will you tell more of your experience? What benefits did you receive? I have never done an extended water fast before. I could use guidance and information.

kimberleegirl

Jen--

I have done a 21-day water fast (last summer) and a 10-day water fast this summer. I'll start with what I experienced on the fast:
1. In the first 2-3 days, your body will use its glycogen stores, and you shouldn't feel too bad. At least, I didn't.
2. After 3 days, watch out! I had ZERO energy. Like I'd have to plan getting up to get a glass of water.
3. I felt dizzy if I got up too fast, and my spirit felt light while my body and brain were really heavy and slow.
4. I felt euphoric AFTER I was done the fast (and much lighter!)

Here are some tips if you still want to water fast:
1. Don't plan ANYTHING. As in, no dinner parties, no outings. If you must work, it better be at a desk job with little movement, and you better drive there. NO unnecessary activity. Believe me!
2. Get rid of temptation. Do not watch TV, because you'll end up staring at cooking (been there) and feeling deprived. Try to be in nature as much as possible. My 21-day fast, I camped by a whale route, which was really peaceful.
3. Get ALL convenience foods out of the house, or lock them up. Seriously. Unless you have superpowers.
4. Get a little book you can meditate on. I had a book of Dalai Lama sayings, but someting simple to get your mind of the hunger is perfect.
5. WALK at most 30 minutes a day. 10 is probably ideal. This will get the toxins flowing, and will help with elimitation.
6. If you live alone, you should be okay, but if you have a family, DO NOT cook for them. You will taste some, and your fast will be over!

Bottom line: If you can, go somewhere with limited access to food, and take a vacation for the 3 weeks. If you can't, just remember the 3 weeks will go by REALLY slowly. NO DAY WILL BE COMFORTABLE! Oh, and I didn't measure my weight after the 21 day fast, but I figure I lost about 30 pounds. In the 10 day one, I lost 20 pounds, but a lot was probably water.

Good luck! Write if you have any more questions.

K ;-)

Kimberlee, Thanks so much for sharing your experience. I shall be living alone for the next 3 weeks. And I don’t have to work. And I do have tons of interesting things to engage me. So this should be an ideal time for me to water fast. I am psychologically ready to go. I hope you will be doing well in your juice fast. What are you going to study at Montreal?

With every fast we get a little better at it. Last time I did an extended fast, I pushed the limits and wasn't getting enough sleep. I ended up getting sick and had to break the fast on the 21st day. This time I am much more careful and am really hoping to do 30 and eventually beyond.

I hope that everyone has a beautiful fast day.

Well, I missed the first day, but I soooo want to join in the fun! I mostly read the boards here instead of post, so I'm a newbie to this forum, but not so new to raw.

For some reason, the last two weeks have been kicking my booty and I'm craving things (cooked vegan things) that I haven't even THOUGHT about for months. And...I've even been eating some of them.

I keep feeling like a fast is in order, and I've been tucking away ideas for liquid fasting that didn't necessarily involve juicing (I have a nice greenstar but I HATE juices, unless it's citrus...I'm a smoothie girl).

I'd like to do some variation of the Master Cleanse with some nourishing herb infusions (Susun Weed-style), lots of water and maybe some spirulina-water (strained) to help with detoxification.

I did a 9 day colon cleanse/fast last month and it was pretty successful, but I feel like I needed to go deeper with it...I guess this is my chance.

Tomorrow will be day 1 for me. Although I don't like juices, I do have a nice watermelon in my fridge that is just BEGGING to be juiced (tasted great, but is a little grainy) and 3 different herbal infusions prepared for tomorrow. I'll probably be checking in here a lot for support. Day 2 and 3 are always the worst for me!

So...does anybody do anything for the OTHER end during the fast? Such as, enemas/colemas, or a salt water flush, herbal "digestive stimulant" tea, etc?

Hoo boy...I've never embarked on something like this...it's a little scary, but very exciting!

This lovely, lovely morning I'm juicin' up a lil' elixir I'd like to call "I'm-on-a-budget-and-don't-like-to-waste-anyways-leftovers" Brew.

Let me see if I can remember what I threw in there... red cabbage, a big chunk of ginger, some zucchini, hmmmmmmmm, cucumber, carrots, lemon. And something else perhaps? Ah, yes. Broccoli stems. Edited to add the celery I forgot!

Gulp! Yum, yum.

Hello,

I am a day late as well because I'm purchasing my juicer tonight! But... I'll catch up.

I'm also a newbie to these threads and raw. I started with a salt cleanse on Monday and that was a great flush. I started this because my body was telling me to get clean. I had major surgery only four months ago after a fall while skiing and all of the meds just left me feeling congested and toxic. I'm not a big advocate for meds and would rather treat myself and my kids homeopathically.

Something is telling me to start off slow... if that's all right with you girls. I have been drinking organic smoothies during the day with veggies and nuts inbetween for snacks. Then, when it comes time for dinner, I start with miso soup and salad, I do have fish or sushi planned with it and cannot finish it... or never get to it! So, I feel that if I start off slow juicing all day and planning food at night, I'll eventually drop the meal for dinner.

Is this ok with all of you? I really need the support and this is a great place for that. I do have to say that I'm not really getting the spiritual side of this. My main focus is health more than weight loss or anything else. I'm 5'9" and 162 athletically built. I was 140 during my "divorce diet" and everyone said I was too thin. I'd love to be back at 145, so I guess that's an added benefit to this.

I'm hitting up Sears, Macys and Best Buy tonight to purchase juicer. Breville is tops on my list. I cannot wait to get one shipped... I wanted one like, yesterday:)

Hey back2health! Welcome!

This is a great place to get support -- but not a great place to talk about the fish. Just keep it to yourself (saying that with a smile/kind intentions). Most all of us aren't perfect -- but you can hopefully understand that in a juice fast thread, it can be a discouragement to others who are choosing to leave that out of their diets.

:)

Good luck on your juicer search. :)

Hi all,

This is my first time here, I found this website through a google search about juice fasting. I thought this was a good place to post since it just so happens that I started fasting at the beginning of July and it would be nice to have some company. I started slowly transitioning to a raw food diet a couple of months ago, and while I was on vacation I fell off the wagon and ate a ton of junk food. My body is aching for a change, and then I got these two horrible infections on my upper thighs (boils), one is almost gone, the other still really painful. I spent 4 days preparing for the fast by mostly juicing and eating one thing (a salad, or an avocado, for ex) and I was already starting to feel the symptoms of detoxing (headache for two days, my mind felt kind of 'foggy') and yesterday (2nd day of juice only) I started to feel better.

My question is: I woke up this morning and the infection on the bad side was even worse. I soaked it in the bath and if finally started to drain a bit. I'm on the fence right now about whether I need to see a doctor but I'd really like to sort it out on my own. Is it possible that it got worse because of the detox and then in the next day or so I should start to see improvement? I guess what confused me is that my headache was gone, my mind felt better, my body felt better, and then I woke up and this thing was worse.

Any thoughts?

Thank you!!

I would wait one more day and if it looks worse maybe see a DR. I would put tea tree oil on it. Also it could be part of detox the skin seems to get worse when detoxing. I hope it gets better for you.

Top of the morning everyone!!! :D I'm ready to begin my fasting today!!! I'm going to do 5 days - water only, then move to a juice fast for the rest of the month when I go back to work.

Should I do Water/Lemon/Agave/Cayanne (Similar to M/C) or just water...? I'm not sure what the difference between the two, except the obvious.

I did have to cook for my family this morning, so I made the food and ran out of the kitchen!!! I'm going to view it like working in a resteraunt...I make the food, then leave. The kitchen is closed now. I don't go back in because I have my water bottle at my side. I've already told my family that's what I'm doing, so when they can they will make their own food. I know that will help me a lot!

Renee -- I'd do the Master Cleanse. That's just me. I like the idea of having lemon and agave in it, sounds like good cleansing + some sustenance. :)

Hi Eva! I think you're right... I think what I'm gonna do is alternate the water with the lemon water. I've only had water this morning and I'm feeling pretty good...but, I think between Lunch and Dinner I might feel a little weak, so I'll add the lemon water then. Thanks for the advise!!! :)

I'm still up for this fast. I have been doing some "day fasting" - fasting through the day but not the evening. I want to break my old record of 20 days (not very long, I know) and go to 30. Then 60, 90 or beyond. That would be juice fasting, non-stop.

I had a few slip ups so I am back on the MC it is just easier I am going to alternate 10 days on then green juices for another 10. I wish I had a fasting buddy. If I can get young cocunuts I will do 10 days of those. Anyway I hope everyone is doing good and hanging in there.:)

Boils do get worse(red and painful) right before popping. I am sure by now it popped.

I will join you next week in juice fasting, technically it will be still July. Are we going to have new thread for August?
