Since I'm new to all this, I kept seeing dates in raw food recipes and in larabars and other food bars.

When I went shopping last week I bought about 5 organic medjool dates from the produce department.

Let me just say it was like a religious experience. That has to be one of the most incredible fruits I've ever eaten. I could eat it as a dessert by itself.

They are wonderful, aren't they? I didn't try them for a long time because I had in my head they tasted like Fig Newtons, which I was never that crazy about.

Stuff it with a cashew or other type of nut. Then you'll KNOW you've had a religious experience. :)

(current favorite that I've been eating a ton of - chopped dates and celery. Then I added walnuts. Today, I'm going to add apples and see how that is.)

Definately put a brazil nut or a pecan in the middle of one.....delicious, it's like a raw version of a candy bar.

Raw pecan inside medjool date = super mini raw pecan pie

I like to remove the pits of several medjool dates and then put them in the freezer. Shear Bliss! Wrote a Haiku about it on this thread here. (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=50858)

Yum - they are like caramel, and I like to keep them in the freezer too. Definitely one of my favorite desserts!

Hmm - good to know they freeze.

Anyone know how long they keep not frozen?

Am I supposed to store them on the countertop (I put them in a covered container) or put them in the fridge in the covered container (where the lone one is resting).

How long do they keep in the freezer?
