what do you think works the best? -- i know there are threads that talk about this, but i didn't see any that were this specific...
do they all have the same kind of healing properties as tooth soap? or what?...
Hi ~ I've used Dr. Bronner's in the past and liked the way it cleaned my teeth. I don't know about healing properties though - this will be an interesting thread, thanks for starting it.
I use a product called Eco-Dent (http://www.azurestandard.com/product.php?id=HB231)right now and like it.
But to be honest - I wonder if using something like this twice a day is too abrasive, I just don't know enough about this. *Ü*

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate in Eco-Dent=eeep!
As far as your question goes, I have this advice:
Regular Toothpaste/Soap: I would not recommend either for several reasons. One being that virtually all have preservatives and/or additives that aren't health promoting. Even if you do go out and buy organic toothpaste, it is expensive and most are only a touch better than their non-organic counterparts.
Tooth Soap: Extremely expensive for just about a month of toothpaste. While it may be effective, and I have heard that it very well could be, the cost is hard to justify. If you have hundreds burning holes in your pocket, then by all means buy it. However, I believe that it should be a last resort and the cheaper option should be tried first.
Dr. Bronner's: What I believe the best choice. It is cheap (Check Amazon for prices that will make the Health Food Stores look like highway robbery: Dr. Bronner's Soap Prices (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Dr.+Bronners+castile&x=0&y=0)) I have been using it as an all-around soap for a long time and it is wonderful. Just make sure to not use too much.

I like Dr. Bronner's. Suppose to be just as good as tooth soap.

Well, ACK - how did I miss that. My eye exam is next month and not a moment too soon ~ thank you Coolexplosion.
Does anyone know what "coconut derived" means below following the SLS? Makes it sound good, doesn't it..?
* LEMON-LIME INGREDIENTS: Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), citric acid, calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate, dicalcium phosphate, natural flavoring oils and extracts, sea salt, sodium lauryl sulfate (coconut derived) hydrated silica, guar gum, myrrh extract, neohesperidin derivative (floAvor from natural citrus).

No problem. I completely understand. I still get oranges and grapefruits confused. As for your question:
"Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) is synthesized by reacting lauryl alcohol with sulphuric acid to produce hydrogen lauryl sulfate which is then neutralized through the addition of sodium carbonate[6]. Lauryl alcohol is in turn usually derived from either coconut or palm kernel oil by esterification of their fatty acids followed by reduction of the acid group to an alcohol."
Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodium_Lauryl_Sulfate
Translation: All sodium lauryl sulfates are either from coconut or palm kernel oil. Eco-Dent's claim tells people they use coconut oil instead of palm kernel, making the claim useless. I'm sure it does trick many though.

Three questions:
1. What has it done/what have you noticed that it has done?
2. What were you using before?
3. Which product of theirs did you get?

Haven't tried Toothsoap. Can't get past the price and marketing hype.
As for Dr. Bronner's; tried the peppermint soap. That is the most awful thing I have ever tasted. You couldn't pay me to try it twice. :p
I've tried so many toothpastes since going natural, store bought and homemade. Finally settled on Uncle Harry's All Natural Toothpaste, Peppermint (http://www.uncleharrys.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=UHNP&Product_Code=10150&Category_Code=MP-T). For a little variety I also use the tooth whitening powder (http://www.uncleharrys.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=UHNP&Product_Code=10070&Category_Code=MP-T).
Works as good or better than anything else I've tried. And I'm supporting a local business. :)

So far I have noticed that the infection in my gums is almost gone (using it for about 1 month) they hardly hurt anymore and are not red and inflamed anymore.
I have been using regular flouride free toothpaste for the last 18 years and the last couple of years I have used a glycerin free toothpast. The last one helped a bit but not enought. But the tooth soap has done wonder so far. I hope to heal up the infection in by gums completly.
I got the fluid one with pepermint tast (dosent taste much of pepermint but not bad at all).
I hope this answerd you questions :D

Yeah, the peppermint soap is not recommended because of how strong the natural peppermint scent is.

I love the extremely strong peppermint in Uncle Harry's. It was the soap flavor in Dr. Bronner's I couldn't deal with. :)

The plain or almond is the better Dr. Bronner's for brushing teeth. You get use to the taste very easily. I barely taste it anymore.

okay... i got one of those fuchs natural toothbrushes, some dr bronner's - i got the peppermint kind.. i didn't like how the almond smelled, it smells like almond extract & it almost made me puke- VERY strong scent.. lol the lavender smells nice, but it is a soap smell, not something i'd want in my mouth... i didn't see a plain kind, was it the green one? i saw one that said "baby"... but anyway.. there's SO much text on those bottles, it makes it confusing to read, and the text makes almost no sense in English whatsoever...
the peppermint DOES indeed taste horrible (I don't like peppermint anyway, but it smelled better than the other ones)... but i didn't think it was so bad.. i got a small bottle of it, along with the fuchs toothbrush and some tea tree oil mouth wash.. i also got some cold pressed coconut oil for oil pulling.. and i picked up one of those deodorant crystals. lol
the coconut oil made me have sores all over my mouth (my lips are all poofy.. LOL).. but i have only been oil pulling for a few days and using dr bronner's soap, and already my teeth are whiter, and outside of the mouth sores, my teeth and gums look & feel great! the sores aren't really on my gums or tongue or anything like that.. they're on the inside of my lips, around the entrance of my mouth. it's been quite comical to watch me try to talk. my family has been laughing at me, because of the funny faces i make, but i'm sure it'll get better. lol
also.. i guess next time i will get the plain dr bronner's soap. my teeth feel really nice & i like the bubbles in my mouth.. one good thing about the soap vs toothpaste is that you don't have to keep spitting and spitting & spitting.. you can just spit the stuff out once & rinse your mouth & it's gone. no sticky residue or anything like that left on your tongue or teeth.. and you can really feel the difference!!! my teeth feel really clean!!!
my parents have also been oil pulling and using dr bronner's soap & they are liking it! my dad's teeth are already noticeably whiter. my mom jokes & says she's being punished by having to use the soap.. lol.. we have used sesame oil, sunflower oil and coconut oil & do the oil pulling for 20 minutes.
so there's my little update. :D
oh.. in regards to the best smelling soap, i liked the hemp eucalyptus one.. i think i will buy a gallon of that & use it to bathe with! :)
thank you for the link to the amazon prices!

Yes, the baby one is the plain one. That one I like best because it's so versatile. Though the peppermint is good for washing yourself and scent-wise. Just not for brushing teeth esp when you're expecting a minty taste.

I got some Uncle Harry's natural toothpaste, too!
I've been using it about a week, and I love it. And, I love the price! It is really cheap ($6 at Super Suppliment in Olympia, WA), and it has no glycerin, no SLS, and has minerals in it. :p
I was using Dr Bronner's and baking soda for awhile. It works, but the Uncle Harry's works better, I think.

LOL you're telling me! it is very disappointing if you're expecting mint-flavor... it smells so good, and like a peppermint candy, but when you get it in your mouth it tastes like someone's soapy butt crack. lol (excuse the way I put that! but it does!!!)... But you know... my teeth feel AWESOME and everyone in our house has noticeably whiter teeth.. It's only been like a week! And our teeth are so much whiter, it's unbelievable!!! My teeth weren't brown or anything like that. lol Just yellow, from when I was younger & didn't brush them, plus eating tons of lemons... Anyway.. Even though it doesn't taste very good, you get used to it & it's no big deal. The oil pulling really helps, too. If you use a strong flavored oil, the soap taste is sorta masked by the flavor of the oil.
I am going to continue this & maybe in a few months, I'll make an appointment at the dentist, just to see if he says anything about my teeth. :) I haven't been to a dentist since i was around 9 or 10 & I'm 25 now. (I know that's bad, but I have never really had any problems with my teeth, outside of recent ones with the enamel)..
Dimond, I will get the plain one next time. Thank you for your advice. :)

you're probably used to it! someday i'll be saying that, too! lol just takes some adjusting, i guess (for me, i mean). :)
glad that you're digging the peppermint. ;) i was just reiterating the point that it doesn't taste anything like how it smells. :)

I think the Tea Tree Dr. Bronner's is probably the best one since Tea Tree oil kills the bacteria in your mouth much more effectively. Since reading this thread, I've since run out of my natural toothpaste and started using only Dr. Bronners for everything.

I use the baby mild and the peppermint. They might not taste like candy but the point i to keep your teeth healthy and clean. You do get use to the taste but only a drop or two in the toothbrush is enough.
