Green Star or Champion? (or what?)

Might as well get the best one if I'm going to get one! What's your opinion? :D

I have more than one Juicer although I don't have a Champion. A Friend had one and I did not like her's. The one I use most is Jack Lalane. I also have a Green Star which I use for other things like Butters etc.

I love my Omega. Have never tried any others but it makes the best juice I have ever tasted. It's new to me and I am just planning on trying some veggie juices. Have mostly been making citrus.

I don't do a ton of juicing, but I do enough. I like easy cleanup.

I have a citrus juicer that is PERFECT for ANY size citrus, black and decker for about $13. It's ridiculously easy to make OJ or to get the juice from lemons or limes for recipes.

I have a Vita-Mix (http://www.uncooking101.com/saving-money-on-raw-food-equipment.shtml)that I use for juicing greens. I just blend then strain. This works great and is a quick & easy cleanup.

I have a Waring Pro that I got about 3 years ago for about $60 that is perfect for carrots, apples, celery, etc. -- anything hard.

I just have never been convinced that any of the fancy juicers are worth shelling down that kind of money. I use the pulp for various recipes, so there is zero waste for me no matter what. And I still get easy cleanup.

Did I mention that I like easy cleanup?! :)

i had never heard of an omega before! lol i've been reading the links that spicyfull gave me & learning quite a bit! :)

i am wanting to make some green juices, because i have lumps in my boob. :/ i figure having a juicer & making some awesome juices would be beneficial :)

i have a magic bullet, but it's not all that great. it has a juicing attachment... but i would like to get something higher quality, you know what i mean? :) it does an okay job on making smoothies so far.. but i'm sure they could be smoother. i used some frozen peaches and frozen blueberries last night with some greens & a scoop of green vibrance (it's what i had)... and it blended them just fine. (just in case anyone was curious).. i haven't tried juicing anything, yet.. but it doesn't seem like it'd be very effective, IMO. i mean you will probably get some juice, but it seems like the pulp would be all wet & stuff as well.

Between the two you mention, I'd go with the Green Star. Highly versatile. I've heard all good things about the Omega 8000 (I think that's the number). Don't know how it does with greens though. Snoops?

We've had our Champion since the early 80s. We haven't used it all that time, it was packed away for years before going raw.

I love it - but I don't have anything to compare it to. For us, it's great for juicing fruits & veggies. I do juice greens, but it's slower. I put in a chunk of something juicy like cucumber and then a wad of greens and push it through.

I've tried juicing our wheat grass and gave up. I now use my BlendTec for wheat grass and then strain.

But to be fair - I just received a new blade 2 days ago and haven't tried juicing wheat grass with the new blade yet.

Champion states on their site to replace the blade every 18-24 months - gulp! - this was the first time I ever replaced it...

I find cleanup easy with the Champion - but again, I don't know how the other juicers compare on that score. *Ü*

Mine is the 5200. Have only done one batch of greens so far - seemed fine. I will be trying some more this week. Got a cool new recipe book.

Doggy - just make sure you get the masticating type not the centrifuge type. They are no where near as good in my experience. SIL has a centrifuge type and the juice was foamy and tastless to me after my Omega.

Everyone says aren't they horrible to clean. Not at all. I find the Omega very easy to clean. Just a few minutes rinsing with hot water and drying off.

I used to have a Breville centrifugal juicer which I regretted getting because a few months after I bought it I learned that centrifugal juicers (those with a fast spinning filter basket) destroy a lot of the nutrition because contact with air makes it oxidize and centrifugal juicers which in a ton of air into the juice so lots of nutrition is lost. The juice from centrifugal juicers is also mostly tasteless due to the extreme damage it causes to the juice and nutrients.

So a few years later I was ready to buy a good juicer so I did lots of research this time to not repeat my mistake.

I was pretty much decided on buying the Omega masticating juicer but then noticed many reviews say it's melamine auger gets grinded against the filer leaving you with highly toxic melamine in the juice and/or pulp. Melamine is what's been contaminating so much food from china and killing and making people sick from it's high toxicity. So the Omega was immediately out of the question since I want juice to make me healthy, not sick.

I then researched the Green Star and it was the clear winner because it extracts 100% more vitamins than other juicers usign patented technologies, it extracts from 30-100% more juice than other juicers so you get much more juicer with the same amount of produce, and it makes juice that keeps for up to 3 days (compared to 15 minutes with centrifugal juicers).

I've had two Champions, a Green Star, Green Power and now a Sampson. I wouldn't put greens through the Champion because it heats up. It's a real workhorse for carrots, beets and other hard produce. To juice greens you do have to wrap then in something to get the through. In the Green star, they just get sucked in. So cute!

I do like my Samson too. Haven't seen the newest GS to compare them.

Hey Raweater ~

this is the first I had heard about the melamine. Where did you read those reviews?

Many reviews mention the chipping/grinding auger and many Omega owners from this forum has mentioned it. About the auger being made of melamine this is mentioned in the juicer's description.

I believe I read somewhere that the melamine problem had been solved in the newer models. Can't remember where I read that - sorry - the discussion initiated here some months ago.

In mine anyway -raweater I see we posted at the same time- the auger doesn't touch anything else. Even the pusher (is that what it is called ) doesn't reach tight to the auger.

The reviews said that the auger grinded against the filter, not where the pusher is. Maybe it is fixed, I don't know.

I said in my post that my Omega was the 5200. That was silly - it is a 8003. No such juicer as the Omega 5200 - that would be the Vitamix!! Opps.

yes, any omega that isnt omega 8006 or omega vrt has an inferior auger. They addressed the auger with the newer models and it is something like 8 times stronger.

If money or cleaning up isnt an issue the #1 juicer on my list would definitely be the angel juicer.

I've had multiple juicers. I think the best one is the Omega 8006. It works great on all levels. That being said I do currently have a (Lequip?) for fruit and when I'm being lazy.
GreenStar negatives was the clean up. It was like a full time job
Champion Negatives- heated up the juice

I've timed cleaning my GreenStar and it takes no more than 2 minutes total.
