just curious what you guys use for shampoo/conditioner?... i have been using salon stuff like matrix, back to basics, redken & i also tried that ojon stuff & lately been using head & shoulders, because i found out i had dandruff :(..

if it helps to know what kind of hair i have, my hair is naturally curly, but not like REALLY curly.. more like wavy.... it's kinda fine & flat (oh joy :/) and i don't dye or color treat my hair, i don't blowdry my hair and it's naturally blonde/strawberry blonde (depends on the season & how much sun time i get)... i've been having my mom cut it, so it's all 1 length, and i don't have bangs. last month i had about 6 inches of split ends cut off, so now it goes right past the bottoms of my shoulder blades, but i'm hoping to get it longer & hopefully a little thicker and maybe even bring out more of my natural curl!! (i like curly hair)

i brush with a regular wide-toothed brush... but i recently invested in a morocco method boar bristle brush (they shave the boars, they don't kill them & the brushes are not made in china they are hand made)

and i also have a problem with dandruff, though i have been picking at the dandruff & then using apple cider vinegar on it, because it's a fungus or something, right?.. well anyway.. the vinegar has helped significantly, but... i'm always open to alternatives.

I used to have dandruff in high school. I got rid of it with this shampoo.

So you use Head and Shoulders huh? So you dont care about using products tested on animals? Procter and Gamble are one of the biggest animal abusers on the planet.

i don't use shampoo... just water. once every six months i get a bit of dandruff and i brush my head vigorously for about 15-30 minutes... till my head is so sore/raw i don't want to brush anymore. then i wash with a natural/gentle shampoo.

then i go back to no shampoo again. :)

I personally don't have dandruff, but I helped a friend get rid of hers by introducing her to henna and neem. She said the neem is what helps the most and her daughter is now using it as well to control dandruff. She mixes the powder into hair conditioner.

BTW, I've been using conditioner only washing since Nov 2005 along with monthly henna. I have long, dark hair past bra strap length with absolutely no split ends whatsoever. I highly recommend this washing method. It works best with cheap conditioners like Suave or VO5. Mine is curly too and this method has made my once damaged, frizzy hair that I want to cut as short as possible into shiny, soft, beautiful hair that I want to grow past my waist :D

My hair is fairly dry and still will get oily if I don't wash it with SOMETHING...I tried not using shampoo at all for a while, and that was just a disaster. I had to have my hair pulled up all the time to hide the fact that it got disgusting. Now I occasionally use castile soap and a homemade conditioner. My hair has never been happier.

I use OCM too! That's a good how-to you've got there. Thanks for sharing.

I've been making my own conditioner and OCM oils since 2005 also. So simple to make producing fantastic results. Love it!

for oily dandruff rub a sliced white onion onto your scalp then wash hair with reg shampoo.

yes, i care about products that are tested on animals, but i didn't know that head & shoulders was tested on them (i didn't realize who made the product). also, you could have been nicer about what you said & just brought it to my attention that they test things on animals & i would have been like 'oh, i didn't know, i won't buy it anymore'... instead, you opted for the "i'm a butthead" solution of being hateful followed by offering absolutely NO advice on what could be used as an alternative. so.. whatever you were trying to accomplish just got flushed down the toilet.

lol honestly, i don't really care what you think of me. you can't sit there & act like you've never made a mistake before. you're not perfect, either, darling. and again, you did the same thing.. offering a big fat goose egg (that means zero, zip, zilch, none, nada) of advice for any sort of alternative whatsoever. if you are so dang smart, then tell me what i can use as an alternative (maybe you know of something that is not mentioned?)- don't just leave the topic open like that. i do understand your sentiments, and i DO support animal rights and don't want to cause harm to any animals, i made a mistake and didn't realize that head & shoulders was a proctor & gamble product.. so i won't buy it anymore! problem solved! now what to use as an alternative, smarty pants?.... my point being: unless you have something to contribute or know of an alternative, then please leave me alone. i already said i wouldn't buy it anymore, so there's no need to sit there and chastise me for something i already agreed to fix. therefore, you can loose the craptastic attitude and offer some stinking advice or just leave me alone. its' quite simple! thanks!

Iwuvmydoggy: Careful; neem stinks TERRIBLY!! Use with caution.

Alexandria: Why do you feel the need to judge so harshly? If Iwuvmydoggy perhaps didn't see the label, I think we can just chalk it up to human error and move on. People sometimes make mistakes! You're no exception, whether you admit it or not.
