View Full Version : Another "Pulp" burger question

I made some more pulp burgers, I think I am addicted to these things.
I juiced carrots, beet, celery, and cucumber. I added shirataki mushrooms, some spices, and a little olive oil. I made the patties, and then dehydrated them, but not to where they were really hard or crunchy. They are still a little moist, and feels a little spongy. I like them this texture.
My question is, how long are they good in the fridge?
Also does anyone have a detailed recipe on what they do with their juice pulp? Like a pulp "cracker" or something?
Thanks
Cathy
I find my burgers don't keep long in the fridge - about 5 days or so. Then whooh - they do go bad :)
All the burgers I've made have frozen beautifully though - so that's what I do now. I keep a few in the fridge and freeze the rest. I'm a big freeze-a-holic. *Ü*

Thanks Deb!!
Is this how you make your pulp burgers? Do they look like thick hamburgers?
What is the texture of yours once you dehydrate them? What flavorings do you like to add?
Sorry so many questions, but I want to make sure I'm doing this right, except I'm finding out that in the Raw Food World, there is really no right or wrong way as long as it is raw ;)
Is the fiber that are in these good for you, or could it cause constipation since all the moisture had been juiced out?
I love these so much, and crave them like crazy. I'm not sure what my body is telling me, unless it just likes the heaviness feeling they give, or maybe my body is wanting more fiber?? I already eat and juice/blend a crazy amount of fiber, so I don't know why it would be telling me I needed more
Thanks again!!
Cathy

Do you dehydrate first - then freeze? or freeze before dehydrating?

Not sure, as I haven't had any to freeze yet, mine all get eaten before then ;)
I was wondering the same thing though. Because once you freeze then defrost, it seems like they would be soggy if you didn't dehydrate.
They are YUMMY though!!!

I made some broccoli burgers last week and I froze them as soon as I made them, but it takes forever to thaw then dehydrate. There must be a better way.
I don't think they would have been too good just thawing then eating, maybe but I doubt it.

It's just chopped broccoli, you don't need to juice it. I only made it because I had blanched some for dinner but didn't really like the cooked taste of it so I threw it in the fridge then came across the recipe and thought, why not? I was going to chuck the broccoli out anyways plus I'd already put lemon juice on it, so I made it just to get an idea thinking it would probably be horrible but, it was good! I was experimenting so....... I ate one raw, I froze one then thawed it and dehydrated it, I baked one and I dehydrated one, LOL!

I've only made 2 burger recipes and haven't tried any with veggie pulp, Cathy. I've made Alyssa's Carrot Pecan Burgers and the Happy Garden Burgers (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=31650).
I tweak the Garden Burgers though and leave them in until they're actually crisp. These were an absolute staple for my husband, but right now he's given up nightshades to see if that will help psoriasis.
I dehydrate the burgers first, then freeze.
When I make the Garden Burgers - I make a quadruple batch. To assure they're all the same size and that they'll dehydrate evenly, I use 1/4 cup per burger and then I form them in an egg ring that I've had for years. I plop out that 1/4 cup mounds over the tray, then take the ring and place around the little mound and using my fingers, simply pat it out flat.
Viola! They're all the same size. Yes - I've been accused of having too much time on my hands more than once! But that's the way I roll ~ ha! *Ü*

i don't know why people think raw food is hard.. you just stick stuff in the blender and eat it most of the time. lol

According to Dr. Karlo Mauro, dedicated to helping women with constipation, things that are dry or dehydrated can be very constipating. If you must eat that kind of stuff, he says to drink a glass of warm water with it, to put the moisture back into it.
