I went to donate blood this afternoon, but I was turned away after the finger prick test on account of low iron. Oops!
The woman asked me if I was "eating meat?" Nope. "Okay, then taking vitamins?" Again, no, but this time a little humbled.
I have nothing against taking vitamins per se, but i just figure you can get your nutrition through healthy eating. But I guess I could add in an iron vitamin.
Besides that, any food suggestions for iron?

have a little citrus every time you have something green. that's what my dr told me to do and i went from extremely low iron to higher than needed :)
citrus = orange, pineapple, lemon or lime! - i personally love adding kumquats to my green smoothies!

I use Vitamineral Green. One heaping Tablespoon contains 150% the Recommended Daily Allowance of Iron. It also contains 33% the RDA of Calcium, 4.4grams of Protein, and lots of other nutrients that are not individually listed.
Alissa's Green Food Powder is identical. I use VG because I can get it locally and not pay for shipping.
I put a spoonful in my daily smoothie. In a pinch I will add it to a bottle of water. Some might say it is "Rank". I've gotten to appreciate the taste. (I've had worse green powders.) To me, it tastes like pure, powerful nutrition.

Wow, that's just the opposite of me. I had been turned away from donating blood for a couple years because of low iron and after a few months raw my iron is rawkin'. I do have fresh citrus juice for "breakfast" and I often use lemon or orange juice in my salad dressings.

My wife Patty seems to have had success after anemia other than high iron diet from natural food sources by getting out in the sun to build red blood cells. Just as sprouts respond to light to turn them from white to green, so our cells seems to respond when exposed to sunlight and this has greatly helped my wife.

I’m curious. What is your diet like. Do you eat all raw, mostly veggies, mostly fruit, lots of nuts, etc… If you are not 100% are you vegan and what do you eat when you are not raw.
Secondly, do you already eat any of the foods that they have mentioned?

If you do supplement, the only kind of supplement that worked for me was angstrom size minerals. You can visit David Wolfe website for more info and google to find other brand.
I don't supplement anymore.
Make sure to eat as many different color with your food, greens and vegetables and you will ok. I recommend that you get rawSome book by Brigitte Mars, she did a good job with sorting out the food that contain specific vitamine etc... Not expensive at all for the information.
