Hello all,
I found this board after listening to the Rawkin Radio podcasts I downloaded from iTunes. I've been raw on and off for about 10 years, but I kept letting my so-called life interfere with my own wishes. I cared for my dying sister and then my aged father, but I never cared for myself. http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/images/smilies/frown.gif But now I'm putting myself first! http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif I have been 90% raw for about 4 weeks now. I don't follow any particular raw guru, but base my diet on my own research (I'm an analytical chemist in the real world). Dr. Joel Fuhrman is the closest I might acknowledge as a "teacher", although he recommends a high raw diet not a 100% one. The foods I eat are, in order, vegetables and greens, fresh, frozen and dried fruit, sprouted legumes and grains, nuts, seeds and avocados, and living but not raw foods like miso. I pretty much eat whatever I want, whenever I want it and I don't worry about food-combining or acid/alkali balance. Since starting back raw a month ago, I have lost 12 pounds. I need to lose another 25, but right now I'm focussing on nutrition not weight loss. I'm 53 years old and not aging well (WAY too much stress). I'm concentrating on getting lots of antioxidants, phytochemicals and enzymes and hope to reverse some of the damage I've done to my body in the last 5 years. I greatly admire Alissa and Revvell's work and list to Rawkin radio every day on my ipod when I walk. I hope to learn more from this board and I hope I can contribute as a scientist as well.
